TOP TEN TUESDAY | SUMMER BOOKS & BOOKS ON MY SUMMER TBR

My reading at the moment is an abysmal failure, so it’s hard for me to seriously consider what I’m going to read this summer. My TBR is overflowing (literally, it has exceeded the bedside table and is now growing on the floor) and I don’t know where to start. So in this post I’m going to share a few books that I’ve already read but that I wish I could read for the first time again right now. Then a few of the ones I think I’m most likely to get to in the next couple of months – but don’t hold me to it.

Books I’ve already read that I’d sacrifice some minor body part to be able to re-discover for the first time:

And one I’m currently reading that, while being slightly slow going, is an excellent summer read:

Here are some of the books that are currently jumping out at me from my slightly alarming stack of books:

No idea where I’m going to start, or if I’ll even make it to any of these before the list completely changes again. But for now at least, these are top of the TBR for me. I would very much like to hear from any of you lovely bookworms who might have already read some of these and could tell me (without any spoilers of any kind at all whatsoever) what you thought! I’d also love to know which books you most want to read this summer and which summerish books you’d give up an organ to read again for the first time!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.

I haven’t read any of those yet, but I do remember hearing about Under the Tuscan Sun and thinking that it sounded like a great book. I lived in Italy for three years so maybe that has something to do with that.

I’m not sure how much help I’ll be except…if you’re already struggling with your reading I don’t think The Mars Room is going to light you up. It’s OK, not great. On the other hand, I’ve heard such consistently great things about Tangerine that I put it on hold at my library and after two months I’m #142 in line. So, it seems as if it must be great and if I had a copy right now, I’d read it.

I’m looking forward to Thrity Umrigar’s newest, The Secrets Between Us. It comes out next week and is not ‘summers’ but is a sequel to another of her books that was a favorite of mine so I’m really hoping it’s amazing. My reading has felt bipolar- a few highs and lots of lows. I’d be happy with a streak of good-to-greats.

I don’t think you should worry about reading the Georget, Em. Maybe if there is a series his books will become more compelling but this one doesn’t have a very powerful narrative drive.

I’m trying to be open-ended this summer and read at will. I’ve suddenly been interested in reading more of the books on the Great American Read list, so that’s probably what I’ll read next.

I did make a comprehensive list of water-y, beach-y, summer-y reads for my post today, if anyone is curious about that..
