This seems like a particularly cruel prompt given the current circumstances that preclude any form of social gathering, bookish or no, but I’ve decided to give it a go anyway. There are a few things I’d like to have at a bookish party, and a few people I’d love to invite!
Some fun snacks and favours (and one merciless prank):
A few guests I’d like to invite (current status re: being alive irrelevant):
I adore David Bowie. I would love to talk books with him, figure out which books meant the most to him, which he enjoyed reading, which he still wanted to get to and, most importantly of all, what thinks of Ducks, Newburyport. He used to write reviews for Barnes and Noble, but I haven’t been able to find any of his reviews online anywhere. I’d give at least a toe to read them. Hunter S. Thompson just seems like a wild card in the mix. You wouldn’t know what you were going to get – a party that you’d never forget or a bullethole in a vital body part. But that’s all part of the fun, really, isn’t it?
I have so much admiration for David Foster Wallace. Listening to him talk in interviews is mesmerizing. The thoughtful and eloquent answers he gives to even seemingly simple questions shows just how much he always had going on in his head – no wonder it got loud in there sometimes. Isabel Allende is someone I also have a ton of respect for. Her books meant a great deal to me at a certain point in my life, and her writing opened up a whole new literary experience to me. I loved her vibrant settings, her larger than life characters and the way her stories came to life as I read them. I feel like she’s someone who has lived an incredible life, and would likely have a lot to say about it!
I’m writing this in a rush because my blog was down for most of the evening and I didn’t get a chance to start sooner, so I’m going to call it here. But what I’d like to know from you guys more than anything is: who would you invite to your literary party? It can be an author, a celebrity, a political figure, or anyone else you admire or would just like to spend an evening with! Living or dead, obviously. Would you pick any of the guests I chose?

Why didn’t I think to invite David Bowie to my bookish party? Great list!
Here’s mine http://bookwormsanonymous.blog/2020/05/05/top-ten-tuesday-things-people-id-have-at-a-bookish-party/
I recently picked up Bowie’s Books – a book all about the books he listed in his top 100 most important reads, so I think that’s why he was on my mind!
David Bowie would be an awesome party guest.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
I feel like Bowie is the answer to most important questions, not 42.
A time of great conversation. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/05/ttt-050520.html
I very much wish I could actually attend my imaginary party!
I love the bookworm and invisibility cloak ideas!
