TOP TEN TUESDAY | LOOKING BACK…

This week marks the 500th Top Ten Tuesday! To celebrate, we’ve been allowed to do any topic we want – go back and do one we missed, re-do one we enjoyed or come up with something brand new. I am following Jana’s lead and looking back over some of my old posts and adding updates. Here we go:

Spring 2020 TBR – March 16, 2020

You all know how I am with TBRs – absolutely terrible. The best way to make sure I never, ever pick up a book is to add it to a set in stone TBR. So it’s hardly surprising that of this list I only read Ducks, Newburyport completely. I read half of The Starless Sea, but I didn’t love it. I also started three others but didn’t get more than a few chapters in.

5 Star Predictions – February 3, 2020

I did marginally better with this one. Of 32 books on this list, I have now completed three and read part of nine. Of the three I completed, two got five stars (Ducks, Newburyport and The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse) and one got a 4.5 (Good Talk). Of the ones I’ve started, I’d say four are definitely on track to be five stars.

My Winter TBR – December 16, 2019

Obviously I didn’t finish this list either. I completed two and read half of three. Again, Ducks, Newburyport was my favourite of the ones I tackled, though I did enjoy reading How Winston Delivered Christmas with my daughter!

Fave Books of the Last Decade – May 27, 2019

I did up to 2018 in this post, so for 2019 I would add a bunch. Natives; Daisy Jones & the Six; Good Talk; Girl, Woman, Other; Ducks, Newburyport; Red at the Bone and The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse would all get spots. So far for 2020 none have made the grade, unfortunately. And since I’ve shifted focus in my reading for this year, I’m not sure if I’ll find any!

Books I Might Add to My 2019 TBR – February 4, 2019

And, of course, I didn’t read a single one of them.

Books I Meant to Read in 2018 – January 22, 2019

I’ve actually read four of these now! Circe, Women Talking, The Wife Between Us and Mrs. Fletcher. The first two I definitely was glad to have read and enjoyed or admired. The latter two were less of a hit.

Longest Books on My “Read” Shelf – October 9, 2018

Entirely just updating this to mention that I’ve now completed Ducks, Newburyport (for the fourth or fifth time in this post) which is not only 1,022 pages, but mostly consists of one sentence. I doubt I shall ever surpass that achievement, and thank goodness for audiobooks!

Books I’d Take to a Desert Island with Me – February 26, 2018

There are definitely some I’d add to this list! First would be one I recently re-read and enjoyed so much I’d want to have it to go back to – The Secret Garden. I’d add Ducks, Newburyport (if weight weren’t an issue) just because it’s so long and so dense that there would never be an end to what you could get out of it! I’d also add Daisy Jones & the Six because I enjoyed it so much that it would be one to lose myself in. I might not mind The Corfu Trilogy as well because Durrell’s love of nature might come in handy if I were stranded!

I know that’s only 8, but I’m tired and want to go to bed, so that’s going to have to do! (I might add more tomorrow.) If you want to tell me what your additions would be to any of these topics a year or two down the road (or if you didn’t do them, a book or two you would have put on those lists) I’d love to hear it!

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.

I’m also terrible at reading TBRs! I recently looked back at my spring TBR, and I only read 2 of the books. Oops. I’d like to do an update on my 5 star predictions, but I don’t remember which books I put on the list, and I doubt I’ve read them.

I did! But it took me about 8 months and only happened when the audiobook finally became available AND I had to because it was on my list for the BookTube Prize! I’m very glad I did though. Really enjoyed it in the end!
