I’m writing this in April because I know I won’t have time later, so I’m cheating a bit. But here are some things I recently Googled, though none of them are that interesting:
- How much protection from Covid-19 do you have one week after getting the Pfizer vaccine?
I and a few people in my family have recently gotten one dose of Covid-19 vaccination, and most have had the Pfizer one. But of course, things keep happening and so I was trying to figure out if any of us had any protection after a week, because I know apparently the first dose is most effective after two weeks. I wasn’t able to find anything definitive, but my family doctor says that it is progressive, so you have more each day up until it hits that maximum amount. We don’t get second doses here for four months, so we will only have the protection given by that first dose for quite a while!
- Risk of catching Covid-19 in a hospital ER?
One of my family members needed to visit the hospital and I, of course, was panicking about both the cause of the visit and the risk of bringing Covid-19 home after the visit. Everything is fine on the first front, and we are still waiting on the second. But it seemed pretty well organized and they made sure everyone wore masks and stayed separate, so fingers crossed!
- Healthy peanut butter smoothie recipe
I’ve been trying to get my kid to eat more vegetables and have gotten into making smoothies. Fruit and veggie ones are easy – throw in whatever fresh and frozen fruit you want (we like a mix of fresh and frozen for the thickness), add a smaller portion of veggies (we like spinach and matchstick carrots), throw in some milk or milk substitute and yogurt if you want (we like Skyr yogurt) and blend until smooth. But I’ve never made one with peanut butter before, so I wanted to get an idea of ingredients that go with it and proportions. As of this writing, I still haven’t been brave enough to try!
- Das leben es ist gut translation to English
No idea. Maybe I heard it in a movie or read it in a book.
- How to get rid of the promotions tab in Gmail
I was setting up a new Gmail account and prefer the traditional view.
That’s it! Nothing very exciting or in the least scandalous, sorry! What about you guys? Do you Google much? What kinds of things are in your search history?

From what I know (based on personal experience with parents), Dose 1 is much stronger than Dose 2, and would give much more protection than not even having Dose 1 (i.e. something is better than nothing). The longer the gap between Dose 1 and Dose 2, it might even be more effective. At any rate, if you’ve been vaccinated partially, the symptoms are supposed to be milder / less riskier. And of course, you still have got to keep on masks and ~6 feet distancing by way of caution. Hope that helps!
Yes, thanks! This is in line with all the research I have done and what I’ve been told by my doctors. You’re exactly right! Definitely still following the 2/3 rule re: outside, mask, distance. Usually all three! Will be as careful as possible for as long as I can to protect myself and everyone around me – plus tiny human who has yet to be vaccinated! Feeling very lucky to have had access to vaccination – I know so many in worse situations throughout the world do not have that luxury.
We’re in the same boat! I just got my Covid-19 vaccine, too. I didn’t know that you get slightly more immunity to it each day after the first vaccine. That’s interesting.

I’m very relieved to have it! More and more people around me are getting their vaccinations, and I’m happy to see more of my people with protection. No clue when kids will be able to get it yet – that will be a real milestone when we can all be protected! Yeah, that was what my doctor told me after my first dose – I think that usually a decent level of immunity has developed by day 14 (I think sooner for Moderna), but every day that passes is a little more. Still so many things that are being reported differently in different places, though!
Commenting on the above — my SIL doesn’t like veggies much, but she DOES like tomato sauce as a base for a lot of things (including a very yummy tomato barley soup) so she purees nearly everything into her tomato sauce (squash, onions, peppers, etc).
Re: Pfizer vaccine — FOUR MONTHS in between?? Holy smokes. We only wait three weeks. I remember reading somewhere that you’re about 50% protected (so half as likely to get Covid if you’re exposed) with the first shot of Pfizer (and probably Moderna, since they’re nearly the same in protection.
That’s how I deal with veggies for my kid! Smoothies FTW.
Yeah, we don’t have vaccine production in Canada, so we are entirely reliant on imports, which have been unreliable and slow to arrive. The government decided to delay second doses so we could get more first doses into people first, thus at least partially protecting a larger portion of the population. Turns out that studies are now showing that a 12 week gap may actually produce a better immune response, so I guess it’s alright! I’ve seen different numbers all over the place, but some are now saying there’s between 80ish and 90ish% protection from the first dose alone, depending on the patient (apparently it’s not like an on off switch, more like a dimmer – some people get a lower level of response and protection than others due to various factors like age and medical conditions). So if that’s true then it’s a good call to get more first doses in faster. All remains to be seen, I guess! I’m just happy we’ve now hit about 50% of people with at least the first dose – progress!
I dunno, that seems like a wonderfully pragmatic collection of searches. (And for AJ – I have always felt the same about vegetables until we recently started experimenting with roasting them and other ways of cooking. Much better! So either my tastes have changed, or I’ve just been Doing It Wrong for decades… Anyway, good luck!)
I found those meal kits helped me learn how to cook them a bit better, and that has helped make some of my other meals a little yummier too! Luckily there are so many resources now for learning how to cook pretty much anything!
I just Googled how to make sautéed peppers taste good. I’m trying to eat healthier, but I kind of hate vegetables. They’re so bland!
Haha! I’m vegetarian, so have a different relationship with veggies. I think the trick is cooking them properly – too little and they’re crunchy and bitter, too much and they’re mushy and flavourless. I hope you find a recipe that works for you!
