BOOK BLOGGER HOP | FAVOURITE BOOK-TO-MOVIE ADAPTATION?

This week’s prompt is an interesting one. Movie adaptations of books get a bad rap, but there are some really great ones out there. Some are obvious, others are lesser-known. And then there are TV show adaptations, which are often my favourites. Here are a few:

Movies:

The Lord of the Rings trilogy (and The Hobbit) are some of the most popular film adaptations ever made, I’d wager. And rightly so, they were excellent. I enjoyed the adaptation of This Is Where I Leave You, largely because of the casting and their ability to manage the comedic timing perfectly. 84, Charing Cross Road is an excellent book and film for book lovers, and one of my all time favourites I like to watch when I’m feeling particularly low. I just finished The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and the film is actually remarkably similar to the book, so that’s impressive!

TV Shows:

I loved all four of these, but for different reasons. This Is Going to Hurt was humorous but also a wrenching account of how hard it was for doctors working in the NHS (National Health Service in the UK) before the pandemic. Maid is a very challenging story, but another that is important to raise awareness of domestic violence and how difficult it is to navigate social assistance services in the US. Love, Nina is not quite as good as the book, but it has some of the funny moments and entertaining banter. And Good Omens is a great adaptation of a book I loved when I last read it (I need to point out that it’s since been brought to my attention that it has a lot of problematic elements, my reading was over a decade ago), and it’s clear the actors enjoyed themselves making it!

That’s it for me! Which films or shows did you choose this week? Were any of my picks on your list?

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly blog link-up that gives participants a different book-related question to ponder each week, and allows them to share their thoughts, find new blogs to follow and connect with new readers. The Hop was originally created by Jennifer at Crazy for Books and is now hosted by Billy at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. To see a list of upcoming prompts go here.
