I mean, I am usually pretty good at figuring out which books I won’t want to keep and borrowing those ones from the library. So this might be a bit of a challenging prompt for me, but I’ll do my best to come up with some! I can think of one, at least….
Some of these are books I read or was read as a child, some are library books I borrowed, some are books friends lent to me and that I loved so much I went and bought my own copy.
What about you guys? Which books did you borrow or that were read to you as a child that you later purchased a copy of? Are there any you borrowed and then (come on, admit it) kept? Any books that you’ve got multiple copies of because you love them so much (Matilda is one for me)?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
I loved Bean Trees so much when I read it years ago. Kingsolver has to be my favorite author by far. I saw today she has a new book coming out in October. Squee!
I haven’t read that many of her books, but her writing is excellent. I think The Bean Trees is quite problematic now (I didn’t really notice when I first read it, but I re-read a couple years back and HO BOY) but I can’t help but still like her storytelling and writing. I need to read more of hers! I am interested in her new book, so maybe that’s one we will both read and can discuss! 🙂
Once I read a story I then don’t tend to get it in a different format. I borrow library books and read ebooks because I am running out of space at home!
An interesting list though!
Have a great week!

Yes, I understand that! I am trying to switch more and more to digital formats. Audiobooks are now my go-to. But occasionally there’s a book I love so much I want to hold it and to see its familiar spine on my shelves, so I turf some to make space! Or I’ll start with audio and discover it’s a more involved book (often this happens with non-fiction) and I want the print format so I can mark passages and flip back and forth. That’s the one down side of audio – it’s so hard to move back and forth in the book!
I reread the Anne series last winter. It’s such a classic!

I love the ones I’ve read…. but I’ve tried a few times now and I never seem to be able to stick with it past House of Dreams! Is it worth it? Do the grown up books have the same magic as the childhood Anne?
I’m not one to reread books, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have some childhood favorites I would love to own. Actually, my husband picked up an old copy of a Nancy Drew book for me last year for my birthday. While I won’t reread it, it’s nice that he took the time to look for it.

Agreed! I only recently started re-reading because I’ve found some favourites on audio, which makes it much faster (I listen sped up). But yes, I have several Trixie Belden books that I don’t think I’ll re-read at this point (I tried one a couple of years ago and it didn’t really hold up), but am hoping my kid might get into!
Great list and picks for this week’s prompt. Anne Franck’s Diary and A Prayer For Owen Meany are such great books to own a physical copy of. I lost my own copies in my many moves across continents, and it makes me want to get new copies and put them back on my shelves.

Ah that happened to my mom! She had some wonderful books in really nice editions that never made it to Canada when she emigrated. She eventually replaced some of them, but still occasionally mentions others she’s lost! I hope you do manage to find copies of the favourites for your shelves.
