Seriously, where do they get some of these prompts from?? The inner depths of my repressed psyche? Cos that’s how it’s starting to feel. Weird things I liked as a child? I mean, I’m neurodivergent. So mostly it was weird things I didn’t like as a child. Can I do that instead? Yes because this is my blog and you can’t stop me? Excellent.
I did not like meat. Or squishy things. I ate certain meats for a while when I was growing and my body needed the protein and nutrients – but basically just ham sandwiches and spaghetti bolognese and burgers only if the patty was thin. Then I hit my late teens and it was no, thank you very much, I’ll take the veggie burger option BUT not if it’s a big mushroom because I also don’t like those or if it has any interesting flavours like blue cheese or goat cheese because I can’t stand those either – they’re just way, way too much taste that’s not good, thanks. So I imagine feeding me was fun.
I also hated a lot of sensory things – tight clothing, anything itchy (tags, wool, UGH) and turtlenecks. I also never liked skirts or dresses much because I don’t really see the point unless you’re secretly a flasher. Not that I’m saying anything about those of you who do enjoy them, this was purely just my own brain’s take on it. Which, yeah, probably not totally normal. And high heels are just no. I mean, why??
I also have never liked people in my personal space. I preferred to sit alone, whether on the bus or in class, and those forced four-desk groupings some teachers inflicted on us back in the ’90s were horrible and made me so uncomfortable.
So yeah, lots of stuff I didn’t particularly enjoy. I guess for things I did like, I liked learning – both about topics I was interested in and how to do things. I learned to sew, knit, bake, mow lawns, do some basic woodworking and garden. Not all skills I loved the learning process of, but that I’m now glad to know how to do. I also learned how to do things that have proved less useful, like making friendship bracelets and weaving, but they were fun hobbies while they lasted!
That’s all I can come up with for this week! What’ve you got?
Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is a blog hop hosted every Wednesday by Long and Short Reviews. The weekly prompts range widely, including both book-related and non-book-related topics. The idea is to get bloggers to interact, share a bit about their lives and connect with other bloggers. Click here for the list of upcoming topics, and visit here to join in the fun!
What neurodivergent children like *is* interesting, though I can imagine how neurodivergent children would get tired of trying to explain it.
I didn’t know until recently that I’m neurodivergent, so I just spent my whole life being told I was picky or silly. So many things have suddenly begun to make sense now that I have this missing piece of my identity!
I used to not like turtlenecks either. As I got older I begin to like them more. High heels are a no. I am already a tall person. I don’t need to be taller.
I don’t mind slouchy turtle necks now, but can’t wear tight ones still! Even tight hoodies I don’t love. I do like scarves though, so go figure! I’ve got no explanations for how my brain decides what it likes and doesn’t. A true mystery.
My daughter is the same way with squishy food. Can’t get her to eat fruit other than apples.
Yeah, for me it’s worse when there’s sliminess involved as well *shudder* just no thanks. Texture really is a big thing!
You know, I get the meat thing. I have never enjoyed the tatse nor thw texture of meat and my parents used to make me eat it when I was a kid. I much prefer the Quorn meat substitute.
Yeah, it’s a thing for sure. I never had a lot of it – we had some meat, but were always bigger on vegetarian meals. I live in Canada and we don’t have Quorn here, but my entire family are British so I used to eat those a lot when visiting, and they were good!
I was actually the one who submitted this topic back when Long and Short Reviews asked for ideas! 😀
I’m not a big fan of meat either. I often pick the vegan entree over the carnivorous one at restaurants.
Those are all good skills to have.
Go you, it definitely got some great responses and had us all thinking hard I think!! Yeah it’s harder not to eat meat because there are a lot less options, but sometimes they’re really good. You can always tell if the chef really understands non-carnivores or whether they’re just throwing mushrooms around!
