BOOK BLOGGER HOP | BOOKS THAT INSPIRE AND MOTIVATE ME

This week’s prompt: What books do you look to for inspiration at the start of the year or to motivate you to make positive changes in your life?

I don’t have any specific books I look to for inspiration, rather I look for any book that feels bright and pulls me in. Usually if I’m looking for something to trigger motivation or get me to lift out of a hard time, it’ll be a memoir or a light story that centres love and friendship, or an easy book that has beautiful ideas in it (like The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse). Lately, since being diagnosed with ADHD, I find it extremely soothing to read memoirs by people – women in particular – who are also on a similar journey of neurodivergence and late diagnosis.

Do you guys have one or two specific books you go back to at the beginning of a new year or when you need a boost? Anyone else look to memoirs or books they can see themselves in?

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly blog link-up that gives participants a different book-related question to ponder each week, and allows them to share their thoughts, find new blogs to follow and connect with new readers. The Hop was originally created by Jennifer at Crazy for Books and is now hosted by Billy at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. To see a list of upcoming prompts go here.

Yes, that’s absolutely a great bonus! Sometimes I find things inspiring sort of as a byproduct of just being really great books or books about important things! I hope you had a great weekend as well!

I love your answer! Reading stories about people who have have shared our struggles can be uplifting and validating. I couldn’t think of a specific book, when I am feeling particularly anxious or down, I gravitate more towards lighter reads. Although I do read some nonfiction, I am more of a fiction read and find it can be just as inspiring or motivating as any nonfiction book I may read. The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is a perfect example. I hope you have a great weekend!

It definitely can be, but I agree wholeheartedly that when you’re really down, it is such a wonderful relief to find a light, preferably funny book that can take you out of that feeling for a while. It’s hard to remember specific books, but it’s more of a feeling I can remember having when I’ve found a good one!

That’s the trick, isn’t it? Not changing your life to become some sort of ideal of happiness-making, because you’ll never get there. Learning how to find happiness where you are if at all possible is, I think, what can change a life. I learned that when I had post partum depression and undiagnosed (and therefore untreated) ADHD – everything was so hard that I learned to just bring life down to the moment I was in, and to really notice those little things that brought joy and weigh them more heavily than all the hard things. If you have any of these sorts of books to recommend, I’d love to hear about them!
