This week’s prompt: Who is your favorite “hobbit” from J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-Earth books?
You know, it has literally been decades since I read any of Tolkien’s work. I remember the films, and I vaguely remember bits of the novels (mostly the bits that seemed to go on forrrrreeeeevvveeeerrrrrrrrrr), but I don’t really remember all the characters or what I thought of them. I remember Bilbo, Frodo, Samwise, Merry and Pippin. I don’t really remember any others, though I think Gollum might have started out as something similar to a hobbit, maybe? I liked Bilbo, Frodo and Samwise well enough. I liked how Sam really stuck with Frodo and was unswervingly loyal. But I think, in terms of my enjoyment, I probably liked Merry and Pippin the best. They had more fun, more humour, and a relationships that seemed to have a bit more complexity. But I could be remembering wrong!
What about you guys? Do you have a favourite? Have you read the books more recently than I did? Do you remember any other fantastic hobbits that I’ve forgotten?
The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly blog link-up that gives participants a different book-related question to ponder each week, and allows them to share their thoughts, find new blogs to follow and connect with new readers. The Hop was originally created by Jennifer at Crazy for Books and is now hosted by Billy at Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer. To see a list of upcoming prompts go here.
