This week’s prompt: With the changing of seasons from summer to fall in September, do you have a favorite book that reflects the essence of this transitional period or one that you enjoy reading when the temperature cools down?
This is an interesting prompt, because – though I know I’ve definitely read books that had that transitional feel – I’ve never really taken notice of that element enough to be able to call any to mind. Somehow these few books do seem to fit the vibe in my memory, but there are probably better ones:
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
Rescuing Ruby by Nicola Baker
Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree
The first three I think do have that descent of the year in to cooler, darker months. I don’t remember the time of year To Kill A Mockingbird was set in – I think it spans a long enough time that there’s a few seasons in it. But I think the story has that feel of light to dark in it that creates a similar sense of shift for me. Legends & Lattes is one that, because of the cosiness, because of the yummy coffee and baked goods, just feels like a great book to curl up with in cooler weather under a warm blanket with a cup of something delicious to hand.
What about you guys? Which books signify this time of year for you? Is it a literal element of being set in that period of time, or is it more of a feeling?
