Liebster Blog Awards!

http://staciesbookreviewgalore.blogspot.ca/2014/03/the-liebster-blog-awards.html

I have been nominated…. for a Liebster Award! The lovely Stacie, who runs one of my favourite book blogs, Books Galore, has decided that I deserve to be nominated. For which I worry about her mental health but am very grateful!

First of all, my apologies to Stacie for taking so long with this post. Though my answers are quite short, I had a helluva time coming up with them. Not to mention my own questions. And I wanted to give it the time and effort it deserved!

I gotta say, I’m loving being part of the book blogging community. Not only do I get to talk about books to my heart’s content and not get yelled at, but you guys actually seem to enjoy it! So, of course, I want to thank all of you for taking the time to visit and leave comments for me. You’ve all helped to make this my happy place!

Here’s how it works. (And you might wanna grab a beer, because this post is gonna take awhile!)

The Rules

  1. Make sure you thank and link back the person who nominated you.
  2. List 11 facts about yourself.
  3. Answer the 11 questions put forward by whoever nominated you.
  4. Ask 11 new questions to 9 bloggers. (They must have less than 200 followers on Bloglovin’ or their preferred method. You cannot re-nominate the blog that nominated you.)
  5. Go to their blog and inform them that they have been nominated!

11 Facts About Me

Well, this is kinda good, because you guys don’t get a chance to learn much about me on this blog. Time to change that!

  1. I love beer.
  2. I’m an only child.
  3. I have three (count ’em, THREE) cats. They’re cute but also very, very annoying.
  4. I can’t drink coffee because it gives me the jitters and then makes me feel like I’m dying. However, decaf lattes are THA BOMB.
  5. I’m very sensitive to aromas.
  6. My parents are both British.
  7. I’m vegetarian. But I don’t like mushrooms, asparagus, eggplant or kale.
  8. I can’t read books that have any kind of animal cruelty in them. Seriously, if they kill a fly, I’m out.
  9. I have a bad habit of picking up and putting down several books before settling on one, so I’ve got a ton of books I’ve only read the first two chapters of.
  10. It rains a lot where I live. I don’t like rain.
  11. I love Moleskine notebooks and have a collection of them goin’!

Answers to Stacie’s 11 Questions

1. Do you believe in true love or love at first sight?
True love, yes. But love at first sight and soul mates, no.

2. What do you do when you’re having a bad day?
Uh…. bitch a lot and then have a beer.

3. Is there something you’re looking forward to this month?
Not really – though I am hoping to get more reading done than I did last month!!

4. Do you think that you have made a difference in someone’s life?
Hmm. I would imagine I’ve made a difference in lots of people’s lives, sometimes in a small way, sometimes in a larger way. I hope mostly positive, but hey, no one’s perfect.

5. If you could see any band that is now broken up, what band what it be?
Oooh, that’s a tough one. Maybe A Tribe Called Quest?

6. How did you get one of your scars?
I’ve got a scar on my back (right through one of my tattoos) from back surgery.

7. If the year consisted of only one season, which would you choose?
Probably spring or fall, because that way you get some sun, some rain and the possibility of some snow!

8. If you could be a superhero what would you want to do?
I’d probably want to be able to freeze time so that I could get more reading done!

9. Are you someone who worries too often?
Yes. All the goddamn time.

10. Do you still talk to the person you fell hardest for?
Yup, every day.

11. What character from a book would you say you relate to the most and why?
Probably Anne Frank. I think because she was just so heartbreakingly real and normal in the midst of such unthinkable horror. There was just something so relatable about her. I don’t think I’d have her strength or optimism in a similar context, but I’d aspire to her example.

My 11 Questions

  1. How long have you been blogging and why did you start?
  2. What’s your favourite thing about being a book blogger?
  3. Other than reading, what’s your favourite hobby?
  4. What’s your number one food or beverage craving?
  5. What’s the one place you want to visit in the world that you haven’t been to yet?
  6. Which book made you fall in love with reading?
  7. What’s your favourite TV show or movie?
  8. What’s your dream job?
  9. What do you collect (other than books)?
  10. Do you have any pets?
  11. What’s your favourite band or song?

And I Nominate…
  1. Julianne from Outlandish Lit
  2. Ellie from Book Revels
  3. Chrissi from Chrissi Reads (I realized after posting this that Chrissi’s blog is Award-free, so she’s just an honourable mention.)
  4. Bree from Coffee Bean Bookshelf
  5. Kay from It’s A Book Life
  6. Jacque from Jacque’s Book Nook
  7. Kelly from Pretty Little Reader
  8. Courtney from The Lit Girl
  9. Bobbie, Allison and Kelsey from Verbosity Reviews

Take a minute to visit these lovely blogs if you haven’t already – they’re all unique and full of great bookish content! (And though it probably goes without saying, if I were allowed to re-nominate Stacie, I would have, because she’s fantastic. So don’t forget to head over and say hi to her at Books Galore, too!)

If you’ve been nominated and choose to participate, please leave your Liebster post links in the comments so I can swing by and read your answers to my (terrible) questions! πŸ™‚

I feel ashamed to say but I've never actually been *hides in corner*
Its something I will do soon hopefully.
Nah it's not because you are a tourist. I have my favourite spots around London that just so happen to be some of the biggest attractions and I've lived here all my life πŸ˜›

I will agree with you on that, some of the buildings in little towns are beautiful. I've always appreciated old buildings with history and thankfully we have a lot of that here. The roads are sometimes too small, as well as the houses haha. Its strange, I've always loved the idea of living on a street like the ones you see in american shows, but I honesty wouldn't know what to do with myself if I did.

well I look forward to hearing what you think. It is well written and I think the characters are well devoleped, but as a fan I could just be a little bit biased on the subject haha

Every time I go to London I go to the same places. The reading room at the British Museum is one of my favourite places in the world. And I think if I moved to London I'd be there every day I could. But that's probably because I'm a tourist πŸ™‚

I love how small things are in England – the cars, the streets, the houses – everything is little. And I like old pubs and stores in old buildings – everything here is new and made of glass. It's boring and everything looks the same.

Hmmm. Well I plan to give them a try anyway. I don't tend to be too upset if a story feels familiar – I care more whether it's well done and the characters are relatable and believable. I read the first chapter or two and it seemed to be written in a way I could get into, so there's definite promise there!

I know what you mean, and completely agree with you. As far as I know things like that are still free, I think most museums are, but not enough native people go to them, its mainly tourists or kids on school trips that probably don't want to be there in the first place.

I happen to love them, but a lot of people could probably argue that they've read the storyline a hundred times, and where as I agree that the storyline is rather similar to others, it still has its own uniqueness about it that makes it special. You won't know till you try it πŸ™‚

Ooooh, thanks for the heads up! Yeah, there are a lot of books where I get why whatever scene was necessary for the story, but I STILL can't read it. I have too many feels, I tells ya! I'll never read Charlotte's Web or Crime & Punshiment. Even Alex Woods vs. the Universe I can't read because a friend of mine told me a dog gets hit by a car. Nope. No way. This is one area where I am fully in favour of spoilers. If I mention a book on my blog ever and an animal gets hurt it in, PLEASE spoil away and tell me!

You know what, though? I feel like that's pretty much everywhere. There's a lot wrong with the world, and with the people in it. One thing I'm really jealous of you guys for is free admission to cultural things – like the British Museum and Tate Modern (are they still free?). Here it's so expensive to go anywhere that a lot of people, particularly young people and families who are struggling to get by, aren't able to enjoy important cultural venues. It's sad.

How is it? Like I said, I never got through the first book – but I was hoping it would be more my speed than TBS!

All of these answers are great, and I'm so honored to have been nominated! Also, regarding #8: don't read The Troop by Nick Cutter. There was a scene that I almost couldn't handle. Two, actually. It was a lot. I was biting my hand. I understand that being a dealbreaker. One of the scenes had good reason to be there, though, to show that he couldn't handle killing an animal. But STILL.

Ahh I see, and don't worry about not answering the question haha. the history behind it is second to none I'll give you that, but the people living here these days give this country nothing to be proud of anymore.

haha I'm actually reading the 3rd book now :). You've read TBS then? what did you think? I personally think its brilliant.

Haha as long as its not just me πŸ˜‰

Oh, I forgot to answer your question! My mom's from the north and my dad's from just outside of London. I've been to the UK a bunch of times, and I love it there! I know it's different to live in a place, but I just feel like there's so much more history there than there is in Canada. So walking around – even in small towns – is much more interesting! I'd love to live in England someday.

Have you read the Under the Never Sky series? You might like that if you're looking for a book like These Broken Stars. I was actually going to read that after TBS too, but got distracted.

I'm not gonna lie, my motivation is like 90% selfish…

Of course I would have! πŸ™‚

  14. StacieSnape says:

haha bless you, I'll tell you the same thing I tell others who tell me I'm lucky to live in London, yes it has beautiful places but they are mainly the tourist attractions. The little towns just outside of London are full of crime and other nasty things like that (as are many countries) and its honestly not a nice place to live the majority of the time. (England in general, not just London haha)

I used to be a mood reader, but lately I've found that if I read a really good book in a genre, the next book I want to read after is in the same one. Like this morning when I finished These Broken Stars, I moved straight on to Into The Still Blue, yes I wanted to read it but I didn't even think twice about it because of it being a dystopian book too haha

    well thank you πŸ™‚

Yeah the saving thing would come in handy too, feel selfish now for just thinking about books haha.

well its nice to know you would have πŸ™‚

Yep! They immigrated to Canada right before my mom got pregnant and I was born and grew up here. Which I'll never really forgive them for. I mean, I could have had a British accent. (Actually I did until I went to school, apparently. But I could have kept it!)

I'm a huge mood reader, so that's how I pick my books. Problem is if a book didn't manage to grab me straight off, I often don't go back to it! So I have so many unfinished books. And yeah, you get the whole rain thing!

I liked your questions! Some of them took awhile to answer, but they made me think, which was good. You're better than you think!

Yeah, I was also thinking that if I could freeze time I could use it to save people who are about to fall or get hit by a car or something too, which would be handy. And to sleep more. But mostly to read! πŸ™‚

Thank you!!! I love it, the only thing that sucked was I couldn't nominate you!

  17. StacieSnape says:

your parents are British? that's really cool. Where abouts are they from? :). I completely agree with 9 & 10, I have to read the first chapter or page of a book to decide what I want to read and well I'm from England, we know the rain all too well haha.

thank you for answering my silly question, sorry they weren't better. I couldn't think of anything as I'm really not good with making up questions.
I like your answer to number 8, I think I would have that power too haha

Like I said already, thank you for taking part. Your nomination was well worth it πŸ™‚
