LINK-UP | IT’S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING?

It has been quite the week this week! I had two visits from family members, which was wonderful. I especially loved seeing my kiddo enjoy spending time with grandparents and watching how beautifully close those relationships are, despite physical distance. We also had our pond drainage fixed, so our koi and goldfish are finally back in their home, though it took a couple of days for them to be back to their normal behaviour. Most of them were skittish and hiding for the first little while. Food seems to have helped their bravery, however! We also counted as we put them back in, and discovered that rather than the half a dozen or so baby fish we thought were in there, there are actually twenty five! We are all rather shocked by this revelation, but pleased that those tiny brown shadows we occasionally glimpse flitting about the bottom of the pond are actually fish rather than pond debris! It’s a bit silly given that they’re outdoor fish we don’t really get to do anything with, but I’m oddly attached to them (my kid even more so), so we’re very relieved that most of them (we’ve possibly lost one goldfish as our count has so far come up short, but it could just be hiding) seem to have survived. In particular the two koi, named Blackie and Daisy, are swimming happily and eating well. I’d share pictures, but I was so preoccupied trying to keep the little buggers alive that I didn’t think to take any, and now they’re back in the large pond, it’ll be impossible to get good ones!

In other news, we had a call from a neighbour on Friday to tell us they’d just seen a huge black bear wandering into our back yard. We looked out the window, and sure enough a giant bear was just disappearing behind our out building and headed next door before cutting down into the woods by the creek. It was very large! I didn’t manage to catch any pictures of that, either, but it’s officially bear season again here. So if you’re also in bear country, keep an eye out!

Now on to the books!

Nothing this week!

Currently Reading

Brit(ish) by Afua Hirsch
Wildful by Kengo Kurimoto
The Lie of the Land by Amanda Craig
Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

Still going with these ones – honestly I’ve put the first three aside for most of this week to focus on time with visiting family, so I haven’t made any progress. I did start the first Emily Wilde audiobook and am about halfway through it so far – I’m enjoying it well enough, but wasn’t expecting some of the darker elements, and the story could still go either way for me. So far so good, but holding final judgment until I finish!

Up Next

The Keeper of Hidden Books by Madeline Martin
The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Flowerheart by Catherine Bakewell
The Golden Rule by Amanda Craig

Raising Hare by Chloe Dalton
Nine Lives by Peter Swanson
The Warsaw Orphan by Kelly Rimmer
Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett

I’ve added a couple of new ones to the list this week. I saw Raising Hare on another blog last week (I’m sorry I can’t remember which one, or I’d give credit!) and then saw it again on the Women’s Prize non-fiction shortlist, so I decided to check it out and give it a try. I also started reading the first Emily Wilde book and am enjoying it, mostly, so far. The library miraculously had the audiobook of the second one available to borrow, so I have that waiting for when I finish the first one (assuming I continue to like it as much as I am so far!). Other than that these are mostly the same as the last couple of weeks, but still not sure what I’ll go with next!

That was my week! Next week is  the first back at school after spring break, so I anticipate some tiredness and probably illness is in my near future, but hopefully I’ll have time to finish one of the books I’m reading now and start one on my TBR. What about you guys? Did you have a good reading week? Anything fun or exciting going on for you?

A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. I also link up with The Sunday Salon post each week hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz (and sometimes include some of her content prompts).
