It’s been a little while since I’ve done a Monday post, so I’m going to include everything I’ve read since the last one! I haven’t finished any books in this past week, so these are all historic.
Just Shelved:
Both of these were for the last round of the BookTube Prize, and they were my top picks for my group. Neither made it through to the next round, so I guess that tells you how my picks lined up against everyone else’s! I thought each was utterly unique, both required casting aside the desires I have to categorize and pigeonhole a book as I’m reading it, and both were confronting and challenging, but in a good and necessary way.
Currently Reading:
I’ve just started The Magician and Still Life for this round of The BookTube Prize, and as such I can’t really talk about either one. I’ve also only just started the other two. I’ve heard good things about Diary of a Young Naturalist, and I was curious to see what it was about. I don’t know if I’ll continue with this, at least right now, but it does look interesting. How to Argue with a Racist is just an intriguing premise, and I’m always thinking about the important question of how to engage people about their prejudices and biases. Not just people who are malicious in their opinions, but those who are still stuck in unconscious bias or who haven’t made any effort to learn about systemic racism or the history of the racist origins of our current societies. It’s an interesting thing to consider, and something that I think is important. Not just to go well, you have to meet someone where they’re at and try to gently nudge them in the right direction, but to consider how to do that, to have some information close at hand to rebut any erroneous claims that are made and to have some persuasive discussions lined up.
Up Next:
These are the next two I need to read for this round of The BookTube Prize, and I’m interested to give them both a try!
That’s it for me this week! What about you guys? What have you read recently, and what did you think of it? What are you reading now and planning to pick up next (or what are some possibilities if you don’t do set TBRs)? Have you read any of these?
A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
Wow, what a great selection of interesting books! I’ve heard good things about many of them (like Still Life and The Magician) and others were new to me, but they all sound intriguing. My TBR keeps growing!

2022 Big Book Summer Challenge
Yeah, those are both in the semi-finals of the booktube prize, which speaks to them being good as they’ve had to make it through two previous rounds at this point! I’m excited for both of them. I’ve started The Magician but can’t say anything about how it’s going yet!
