LINK-UP | IT’S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING?

Not as good of a reading week for me this week, but I did discover some new graphic novels that are lovely, and I’m making progress (though slow) in a couple of print books and one audiobook! Let’s dive in.

Just Shelved

I haven’t read as much this week as last week because my kid has been sick, and the week has been pretty much full of that, unfortunately! But I did devour these two in one sitting and adored them. As a 40-something mom, some of the teenaged angst felt a little much, but I’m sure that it’s accurate if I struggle to strain my mind back to remembering what being a teenager was like! And of course I loved the LGBT+ representation and the positive messaging surrounding it. So important; so great to see in books for teens. I’ve already ordered the other two books in the series and can’t wait for them to arrive. I’m sure I’ll devour them in one sitting too!

I started and have nearly finished The Light Between Oceans. I’m loving the audiobook read by Noah Taylor. It’s not easy going – of course, given the story – but it’s beautifully written. I’m still plugging away at both The Appeal and A Small Person Far Away. Both are slow going – the first is just such a slog with the format being emails and not knowing yet – more than halfway through – what the point of the story is. The second is a difficult book and so far lacks the faint sense of cosiness (weird to say about books set in WWII, but somehow they were) and has jumped so far into the future that the characters are either much changed or gone. I’m not sure what to make of it. I want to finish, but I’m really not enjoying it the way I did the first two, I’m not invested, and being nearly halfway it isn’t really likely to pick up. We’ll see. I’ve started The Woman In the Window – one I’ve been meaning to get to for years – and am intrigued so far, though I feel like I’ve figured out a least one piece. I’m hoping to read it with a friend, so I’ve paused at chapter 18 until she has a chance to get into it, but I expect it’ll be a quick read once she has a chance to get started!

I’ve started Mrs Palfrey already and am interested to see what happens. The other three I have out of the library, so we’ll see how they go!

What about you guys? What did you read this week? Have you read any of these, and if so what did you think (without spoilers for the ones I haven’t read yet, please!)? I hope you all had a great reading week and that this week brings some new favourite books!

weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

I’ve listened to all the Bosch (and now Ballard) books on audio. I like them all! I wasn’t a big fan of The Woman in the Window, but I’m in the minority on that, I know. I’ve had The Appeal come up for me in the library holds several times and keep postponing it because I don’t have time. Maybe I shouldn’t bother!? The Light Between Oceans was a book club book for me a number of years ago. Most of the group liked it more than I did, as I recall! A Man Called Ove I listened to on audio; it’s one that all different readers at the library have liked — a real crowd-pleaser!

Just realized I never hit “post comment” on this the other day!

Wow, go you! That’s amazing! I plan to circle back to Bosch at some point and just start over at the beginning, but for now I’m really enjoying the Ballards. You know, I’m only about a third of the way through TWITW, and yeah. I get it. LOL! I think The Appeal is interesting because of the format, but it really needs to be read in print as some of the notes aren’t in the digital and audio. It also benefits from an intense read. So if you have time to sit down over a weekend and read the whole thing, I think it’ll be good. But I don’t have much time to sit and read print, so it stretched out over a month… and that meant forgetting some of the details and losing track of some of the connections. Which wasn’t the book’s fault, but definitely impacted my enjoyment! I’d say give it a try, and just be prepared that the set up is like 3/4 of the book, but it really comes together at the end! I’ve started A Man Called Ove and I’m really enjoying it so far! I can see why it would be popular. You did – it’s my fault – I’ve gotten really behind on publishing and replying to comments in the past week due to a sick kiddo. I deleted the first comment so it’s just one published, and I’m so sorry for making you write it twice! 100% my bad!

I loved The Light Between the Oceans. The Woman in the Window was a good, twisty thriller – my husband and I listened to it on audio on a road trip.

And, wow, you have some great books coming up! Becoming and A Man Called Ove are both great, and I love Michael Connelly but haven’t read that one yet.

    Enjoy your books this week!

I just finished The Light and *GULP* I’m still recovering! I’m listening to the audiobook of The Woman in the Window as well, and enjoying it so far. I think I’ve guessed one or two things, but will have to see if I turn out to be right! Great one for a road trip. Yay! I’m excited about all of these – let’s hope I don’t get distracted by something shiny and actually do manage to get to these ones this week! Ha!

I just finished reading AN ACCIDENTAL PARISIAN, a memoir by Juliet Young. It was unputdownable.

Carefree, confident and curious about the world around her, Juliet takes leave from her comfortable existence back home and embarks on a journey to Paris. Her goals are to perfect her French, find a job and have exhilarating adventures in Europe for a year or two.

Nice looking assortment of books. While I’ve heard of a few of them, I haven’t read any. I hope you enjoy them. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
