Well, it’s been a while. The last time I wrote a Monday post was on January 30th – because I haven’t really read much since then! It’s been a busy time, a lot of stuff going on, and a lot of stress along with it. Between dealing with renovations, starting to pack, a family member undergoing a medical procedure (successful and all is good – thank you to everyone who sent well wishes!) and some issues managing my own medical issues, I’ve had too much on my plate. But over the past couple of weeks I started to feel the urge to read coming back, which was a welcome surprise! I also discovered at the very last minute that it was Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon this weekend, so I tried to participate in that a little bit, though only for about 6 or so hours in total including a lot of audio while doing other stuff. It was fun to somewhat participate though!
Here’s what I read after that post but before the past week and a half:
I was surprised that I enjoyed this book as much as I did. I hadn’t had a great experience with The Vacationers – the only other Emma Straub book I have read – but this one had a much more cohesive plot and characters I connected with much more easily.
Just Shelved (April 22-30)
Breaking through a lengthy slump like the one I’ve been in over the past few (stressful) months takes some easy reading. Luckily The Man Who Died Twice came up through my library, so I gave it a try. Then I realized I was behind on Agatha Raisin and, much to my delight, found that there were multiple books in the series I hadn’t read yet! So I dove into numbers 30-32, above, and had a fantastic time in Carsely.
Now, you’re probably a bit confused because I listed 30-32 above. I didn’t notice that I hadn’t yet read 28-29, so I then read these out of order! I enjoyed the three above more than these two, but they filled in a few blanks!
I’ve had In Five Years on my TBR for ages, but kind of forgot about it. I came across it this weekend and decided to see if it was available from the library. It was, so I listened to it. Not exactly my cup of tea, but not bad. I have been watching the Daisy Jones and the Six show, and couldn’t remember exactly what happened in the book. I originally read it in print and then snagged the audio when it was on sale, so I’ve always planned to listen to the audiobook one day since it’s a full cast that sounded excellent. So I did, and it was great. I then got a notification that my library hold for Anxious People was available. I’ve been wanting to read it for a while, so I gave it a try and really enjoyed it. It’s possible Fredrik Backman is becoming a favourite author, since I also loved A Man Called Ove!
Currently Reading
I’ve been slowly chipping away at Safe since January. I only have a physical copy, and I so rarely have time to sit and read those that it takes me a while. This is great for dipping in and out of, though, as it’s a series of shorter writings. Really interesting. I’ve only just started Giant Days, but it’s going to be fun, I think – I found it thanks to Allison Paiges’ channel. Every once in a while I like to dip a toe into romance, and Delilah Green Doesn’t Care is one I’ve been seeing around a lot. It was available from my library, so I’m giving it a try. I don’t hate it so far!
Up Next
I had forgotten about I Belong Here until it came up in an image on Twitter last week. I was able to find the audiobook, so I’m now embarking on this epic journey through my ancestral homeland with Sethi. I’ve got a copy of How to Live When You Could Be Dead that’s been languishing on my shelf for ages, so I’m hoping to finally getting around to it. I love reading books about how people handle illness (terminal or chronic), so I’m interested to find out what Deborah James has to say. As you guys know, I’m getting really into gardening. The Sprite and the Gardener is another I came across thanks to Allison Paiges, so I’m looking forward to a whimsical gardening story! I loved The Salt Path, but I’ve not yet gotten around to finishing The Wild Silence. I’m hoping I’ll finally get to it soon, though I have a paper copy of this as well, and we all know how that goes!
That’s it for me this week! It’s been the biggest reading week I’ve had… well, pretty much since last year! I’m very surprised that I managed to read so many books, but it’s also been a really fun time. What about you guys? Have you read any of these? What did you finish this week?
A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
