It’s been a hell of a week. We’re neck deep in trying to plan how to get necessary work done on our house during COVID, not yet vaccinated, without breaking the bank. My kid has been having some medical issues as well (don’t worry, so far it’s kind of okay, though still a way to go before I stop spending all my spare energy on worrying) which have been keeping me up nights – either checking over and over again or worrying. Luckily I was part way through a couple of books so I still finished them before all this took over, but haven’t made any progress on anything new!
Just shelved:
I finished both of these this week, and while Redhead was good (much better than A Spool of Blue Thread), There There was far and away my favourite read of the week – probably even the month so far. Both I listened to on audiobook, and both audiobooks were excellent. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend There There in any format you can find it. It’s brilliant and important.
Currently reading:
I just started both of these, so I’m not far enough to really know much yet. All I can say is they’re both intriguing me. I’m a little nervous about The Pull of the Stars because it seems to be about a plague in Ireland in the mid twentieth century and I’m not sure I’m up to reading about a plague… from the middle of another one. But I am drawn in by it, so we’ll see how far I can handle getting!
Up next:
Not much has changed here since last week! Craig Johnson is still on my list, but a bit further down it as it’s easier for me to get later. Homeland Elegies and A Place for Us I have from the library and both have people waiting, so I’m going to try to get to them before they have to go back – ideally even sooner so I don’t keep people waiting longer than necessary!
So that’s it for me this week. What about you guys? I hope your week was better than mine – what did you read? Are you reading anything good at the moment? Anything coming up you’re excited about? I’d love to hear all about it!
A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
I feel you on trying to get work done on a house during this time. I wish you all the luck with that!
I hope your child is doing better.
As a Jane Austen fan I’m always drawn to books with a play on her titles so Pain & Prejudice caught my eye, but then what the book is about made it a solid add to my TBR list.
Happy reading this week!
Thank you! Yeah, I liked the play on the title. I am really interested in the topic, but as I’m so tied into the medical system and find it so exhausting to navigate it – on top of dealing with the medical issues that sent me there in the first place – I am worried it will be a bit much for me to read, so I keep putting it off. I need to give it a try though! Happy reading to you too!
Hope all gets well with your child soon
Thanks! It’s a chronic condition so adjustments just need to be made periodically. Stressful, but expected!
