LINK-UP | IT’S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING?

I nearly didn’t write a post this week, because I thought I’d only finished one book and it felt like it wasn’t worth the effort. Then I decided to just check which books I’d finished last week and which I’d read this week and OOPS! I read three! So here’s the post, in the spirit of pleasantly surprising oneself!

I have been looking for first-person accounts of women with ADHD, and Better Late Than Never is one I stumbled across. It was interesting – Mahony was diagnosed mid-life and goes into her experiences pre- and post-diagnosis, looks back over her life and all the things that suddenly make sense with this piece of the puzzle being slotted into place, and weaves in a lot of factual information, mythbusting and resources for those who are either newly diagnosed or suspect they may have ADHD. I enjoyed it, though it wasn’t perfect (more to come in the review). Unraveling was on sale, and seemed like a fun premise. Orenstein used the pandemic lockdown to delve into knitting in a way few knitters ever do. She learns to shear a sheep, spin her own wool, and dye it using natural processes. It’s a laborious undertaking, but one that taught her a lot about women’s work through time and the value of handcraft skills. Garden Variety was yet another sale discovery, and as I’m into gardening right now jumped out at me. It’s mostly a romance novel that takes place against the backdrop of a community garden in L.A. It’s enjoyable, but like most romances, it lost me in places.

Most of these are hold-overs from last week, though I have made some progress on Penelope Lively, and Funny Farm is a new addition I’ve only just started – a memoir about a woman who runs an animal rescue centre that has hundreds of abandoned or rescued animals. Enjoying both so far!

I’m really not sure what I’ll be reading next, since my recent way of choosing books to read has been mostly through stumbling across them either in a box of books I’m unpacking or on sale through one of my audibook services. So we’ll see if I actually get around to any of these ones!

That’s it for this week! What about you guys? Have you read any good books this week? Have you read any of the books in my post, or are you interested in giving any of them a try?

A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

I had a fairly successful reading week. I am following my own challenge to Try it in July. The idea was to read books from my own shelves, or at least preview the books by reading 25-50 pages to determine if I want to keep them and finish them, sometime in the future or pass them on. So far I’ve determined what I want to happen to 19 of my own books, many are going bye-bye. But several I’ve gone ahead and read, or am reading right now.

Wow, that is amazing! I keep trying to do that and get as far as making a stack of really old, neglected books I need to make a call on, then getting… you guessed it – distracted! I’m very proud of you.

Interesting assortment of books. I find that I’m reading lots of cozy mysteries these days. I find your variety of books intriguing and hope you enjoy them all. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
