I had a decent reading week this week – but I can’t tell you anything more about it. So you’ll have to just take my word for it. Here’s what I read, and what I’m reading, and a few books I might (but probably won’t) read next.
Just Shelved
Demon Copperhead I can’t discuss as it’s the last book for my BookTube Prize reading. You’ll hear all about it after we get through September. The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating is one I’d come across a few times and forgotten about, but popped into my head the other day. It was short and I had the audiobook, so I took a break from Demon Copperhead and quickly zoomed through it. I really enjoyed it. As someone who is chronically ill and has had periods of convalescence (unwilling), I get a lot of the feelings she discusses, and also the need for finding something you can engage with that’s not too demanding, not too challenging but also important in some small way. Like taking care of a snail. I’m considering adopting one next time I’m immobile.
Currently Reading
I’m so close to finishing Life in the Garden that I could knock it out in ten minutes if I could actually put ten straight minutes sitting still together. The Complete Gardener I’ll be chipping away at indefinitely. Midlife Bites is a follow up to People I Want to Punch in the Throat, and it’s funny in the same way, honest, irreverent and totally unfiltered.
Up Next
I’ve finished my BookTube Prize reading for this round, so I’m in the heady position of being able to read…anything I damn well please. So, in typical neurodivergent fashion, I’ve got no idea what I want to read. I have started but not finished the first three books above, and I’d like to go back to them. I’ve read My Mess Is a Bit of a Life, but I enjoyed it so much I’m really considering re-reading it already. The others are just books I’ve been hearing about or have access to the audiobook of, so they’re top of mind. But I’m willing to go out on a limb here and guess I’m not going to read any of these next, because…. well you know.
What about you guys? What did you read this week? What’s up next? Have you read any of these books?
A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
All of your books are new to me. I have heard of Demon Copperhead but have no desire to read it. I prefer genre fiction – any genre really. I’m not too interested in literary fiction. I like to free range read but have bunches of September and October review books that I need to read. This isn’t a bad thing. After all, I chose to put them on my stack. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
I like genre fiction as well – mostly mystery. Great when I really just want to zoom through a great story! Demon Copperhead isn’t one I would have picked up without a reason, so I get it! Happy reading to you as well!
Midlife Bites sounds like something I’d enjoy because I agree with the sentiment
The Backman book is a quirky delight as his books tend to be.
Wishing you a great reading week
Hahahaha yeah, it kinda does, huh? Glad to hear the Backman holds up – I’ve liked the two of his I’ve read so far! To you as well!
