Well, this week I have had a lot going on, so I have been reading only a little bit and having trouble sticking with any one book. I’ve been dabbling in a few, hopping back and forth, and mostly putting down the book or pausing the audiobook to watch old episodes of Grace and Frankie because it’s easy to have on in the background while my brain is doing other things.
Just Shelved
Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Currently Reading
I’ve started these or tried to continue them, but I’ve not managed to get very far in any of them. They’re not gripping enough to break through my current brain fog of illness and sadness (my cat passed away last week, and though it was a kindness due to cancer, it is still very hard), even though they’re good books. The Edible Garden is the one I’m enjoying the most – it’s full of enthusiasm for gardening and really practical advice that isn’t overwhelming. I do think that the print book may be a better choice than the audiobook because parts of it are lists of plant sizes that are a little difficult to take in when read aloud. But other than that, it’s great, and very similar to the show. A House in the Country is my next Persephone Book after loving The Fortnight in September. It’s good so far, but takes a bit more effort than I can currently muster to get into. The Bookshop That Floated Away and Sheets are both ones I’ve been meaning to read for a while, but also both downers, at least at the parts I’m at. So not really what I’m looking for in my current mood! I think I’ll pause on them and try to find some funny books or books about nature that are comforting this coming week.
Up Next
In the interest of finding books that are either nature-based and comforting or funny, these are on my list of possibilities. Heavier on the side of funny.
That’s it for me this week – I’m off to curl up in bed and probably cough up part of a lung. I hope you’re all healthier and overall having a better time of it than I am! I’d love to hear about something funny or joyful that happened to you this week, and, of course, any books you’re enjoying or have just finished and want to rave about!
A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
That’s my strategy—pick up a book about nature or a humorous take on life—when I am having trouble reading. Lately I’ve had a lot of success with kids’ books, too. I’m very sorry to hear about the loss of your cat.
I’ve added The Edible Garden to my list of books I’d like to read. I’m very curious about Underland, so I hope you’ll share your thoughts.
Yes, kids books are fantastic as well! I have also started re-reading more, and that’s a go-to when I’m having trouble reading. Because then I know for sure I’m getting exactly what I’m in the mood for! Thank you. We miss her horribly.
The Edible Garden is a great book for gardeners – beginner or not, I think. I’ve picked up a few ideas from it! I am curious about Underland as well, but I’ve had it on my TBR for so long now that I wouldn’t hold your breath… it might be a while before I actually get to it! But who knows, stranger things have happened….. 😉
