Well, more time has gotten away from me and rather than reading, I’ve been watching BBC shows about plants, wildlife, nature, gardening and history (A House Through Time is a current favourite). I’ve also spent a lot of time out in the garden weeding and tackling two very large, very unruly rose bushes that have not been pruned in quite some time, from what I can tell! My Dad helped me, which is good because otherwise I’d probably still be out there inextricably tangled in various thorny branches! But we got it done, and it looks a bit barren, but much tidier than it did before. The time outside was also lovely! It was also Easter weekend, so I arranged an indoor scavenger hunt for my kid with lots of fun clues and challenges, and we then hid a bunch of Easter eggs in the yard (since we finally have one and it was sunny!) so we could do a traditional hunt. It was very fun, and lovely to see such enjoyment! So that’s my excuse, not at all sorry.
Just Shelved
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Again.
Currently Reading
From the top row, I’ve made only very slight progress on The Edible Garden since last week. Mostly while weeding. It’s great, I just haven’t gotten very far! Haven’t so much as picked up the other two, but they’re still sitting on my headboard for when I do feel inspired!
From the bottom row, I started Oh Miriam!, Street Haunting and Toksvig’s Almanac this week. I wasn’t quite energetic enough for Miriam, but know I’ll love it when I am not quite so tired. Street Haunting is a small book with a selection of her shorter writings, and so far it’s wonderful. Mind you, I’ve only read the first piece which is all about reading, so really I was bound to love it! But I’m excited to read more. I’ve never read any Woolf before, so it’s a great place to start. Toksvig’s Almanac is a series of short entries about women through history for each day of the year. Because it’s Sandi Toksvig, it’s also quite funny. I got a used copy that smells of some sort of awful perfume, so I’m struggling a bit. Glad I only need to read a page a day! We’ll see if I can handle sticking with it.
Up Next
As usual, no idea what I’ll be reading next, so again an even split between comedy and nature. I have, however, listened to a small bit of Nature’s Best Hope, and it does seem like one I’ll be interested to pick up soon. So we’ll see!
Another week gone! I hope you guys have had a better reading week than I have, and that you’re also enjoying some much-needed time outside! Let me know if you’ve read anything particularly scintillating, or if you’ve discovered any new books to add to your TBR (not that you need more on there, but I’m sure that hasn’t stopped any of you)!
A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
[…] addition to the books on my last post, I’ve got these in the queue. As always, no idea what I’ll get to […]
Nature’s Best Hope is perfect for anyone working on a garden. I wish I’d known about native plants and how important they are long, long ago. Maybe that book will work for you. If not, I say focus on the outdoors…books can be on hold until everything is in the ground.
You certainly have some promising books on standby.
Oh that’s great to hear! I’ll look forward to it then. I’ve not gotten very far to this point, but it seems to be in line with what I’ve been considering. I’m going for native plants as a base, then lots of diversity so that hopefully I’ll attract lots of insects and provide food for them! Thanks, that is a very good point. I’m mostly working on weeding and indoor starting seeds at the moment, but it’s making it feel like Spring!
