Oh man, the last week has been an object lesson in when it rains, it pours. But, somehow, I did manage to get some reading in! Here’s what I read this week.
Just shelved:
I never planned to read A Children’s Bible, but am glad I gave it a try. It’s not my favourite book of the year, but I found it to be an interesting departure from my usual type of books. It’s riddled with bible references and events that echo them. It’s a weird premise – the entire story is based on the premise of parents who really don’t even notice if their kids are around, let alone care what they’re up to. I found this premise incredibly hard to buy into, which was an early strike against the book. But if you can suspend disbelief on this point (and a few others), it’s an interesting literary experiment. Kind of like a cross between Lord of the Flies and The Walking Dead. Real Life is another I can’t talk about yet because of the BookTube Prize!
Currently reading:
I’m really enjoying both Diary of a Somebody and Broken. Both are humourous in different ways, and Broken is, as usual for Lawson, hitting a very strong chord with me. I’m reading Shuggie for the BookTube Prize, so like Real Life, I can’t discuss it. I haven’t picked up The Golden Rule this week, but I’m enjoying it so far!
Up next:
These are the other three books I’ll be reading for my Prize group, and of course, I won’t be able to talk about them. I’m hoping to mix in the other three I’m reading so I’ll have one or two books I can talk about mixed in over the next month or so! I will say I’m excited about all three of these books, so we’ll see how they go!
That’s it for this week. What did you guys read this week? Have you read any of these (though don’t tell me anything about the Prize books as I’m not supposed to have my opinions affected!)? Which books are you most excited to read next?
A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
enjoy your books
Thank you!
Most of these are on my TBR but I haven’t read any of them, so no opinion in this comment to corrupt your judgment! 😉
