Well, I did finish a book last week, but I’m back to only a little bit of reading this week. But I’ve had a great week of gardening, watching things grow, seeing new seeds sprout and enjoying the bees busily collecting nectar from our rhododendrons and the kale I let flower so they’d have a big more to visit. So, despite the reading quiet spot, it’s been a good week.

Not a darn thing.

I’ve picked these up and put them down this week, not made a ton of progress with any of them! It was a busy week, lots going on, so just not a great reading week.

I’ve had The Shepherd’s Life on my TBR for ages. I like reading about the lives of people who work with animals or the land. And this is even more interesting because one side of my family is from this general part of the UK going back centuries. So I’m curious to find out what life is like there for a modern farmer. I’m also interested in reading Helen Rebanks’ book – she’s James Rebanks’ wife, so it’s kind of a husband-wife book combo. I’ve never read books by a married couple before, so I’m interested to see where they have similar perspectives, where their experiences diverge, and what life is like for each of them separately and together.
That’s it for me this week! Possibly I’ll get some reading done this week… but probably not. Once the rain stops I’ll be back out digging in the dirt! What about you guys? Read any good books this week? If you have any suggestions of books about people gardening, engaging with nature or animals, I’d love to hear them. I’m very much in a nature memoir headspace right now!
A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
I imagine that I would enjoy both The Shepherd’s Life and The Farmer’s Life. I also enjoy reading about people who work with the land, and I also have roots to both of those kinds of lives.
On weeks that are slow, reading-wise, I remind myself that I am not in school, and that no one is requiring me to read anything.
Well if I do manage to finally get around to reading ever again, I’ll let you know what I think! I’ve read a few books about farming and working in nature and I enjoyed all of them to varying degrees. My mum is from that part of the world, so it’s also interesting to me to read about the land she and her ancestors came from! I’ve visited and felt this strong sense of place there, but I’ve never had the opportunity to live there. I wish I had, so this will be a second best option! Thank you for your reminder that reading is a joy, not a chore. You are absolutely right. When things finally start growing in my garden I’ll share a few pictures of what has been drawing my attention instead! (Our first lupin flower is now in bloom and I’m transfixed by it!)
