So how was your last few weeks? Mine were…. hmmm. Do you ever have a chunk of time that you immediately forget huge parts of because it was so stressful it causes your brain to short-circuit? That. That was my few weeks. Everything is fine, just a LOT going on. Hopefully things will be starting to get back to normal soon and I’ll be slightly more reliable. Not that it matters, since I wasn’t able to finish any books at all week before last! Anyway, here’s what’s been going on since last we checked in.
Just shelved:
These were the last four for my BookTube Prize reading, which I still can’t talk about for a few more weeks. Now I’m busy wrestling with which order to rank them in! I’ve got them lined up next to my bed in the order I think I want them in, but at least once a day I wander past and move one or two. It’s an ongoing decision-making process.
One book I can talk about this week! It was a guaranteed slam dunk, because Jenny Lawson. I adored this book, of course I did. Jenny is my spirit animal, a kindred spirit, someone I completely adore and relate to. I feel like with each book she gets even better, and she consistently sets high bars for herself. This book proves that rule. If you suffer from chronic mental or physical health issues and are looking for someone to make you feel less alone and give you reason to laugh in spite of all the misery, this is the book for you. Excellent.
Currently reading:
Solutions and Other Problems has been loooooong awaited. I loved Hyperbole and a Half. So much. It spoke to my soul. Allie Brosh and Jenny Lawson are two people I feel get me. They are both a bit neurotic, a bit anxious, prone to over-thinking and sensitivity. I’ve been waiting for this book for over five years. And I don’t know what to say about it. It isn’t really what I expected, and it’s not what I remember from Hyperbole. Spinning Silver was a very kind gift from one of my best friends, and it is where I went when life got too tough over the past few weeks. I had to put it aside this week to focus on finishing up my BookTube Prize reading, but it’s on my bedside table just waiting for me to get back to it!
Up next:
I had to put the first two aside to focus on BookTube Prize reading, but I’m hoping to get back to them soon! Night Witches was another gift from my friend, and I’ve read the first few pages and am already intrigued. Can’t wait to get to it! The Office of Historical Corrections is one that I keep seeing all over the place. I don’t know that much about it, but I remember reading the blurb a while ago and being interested in it, so I’ve decided to just dive in.
Okay, so that’s my few weeks in books! What about you guys? What did you read? Have you read any of these books, and if so, what did you think?
A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.
I didn’t like Solutions and Other Problems nearly as much as I loved Hyperbole and a Half. I was disappointed (but based on Goodreads reviews I think I am in the minority on that one)!
Yeah, I loved Hyperbole because it was all about things I could relate to and that aren’t talked about enough. Solutions is, so far, mostly a random selection of awkward (and sometimes gross and off-putting) stories. It seems kind of all over the place. I’m only about halfway through, so maybe it’ll become more focused as I read, but yeah, I’m not loving it the same way for sure.
