LINK-UP | IT’S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING?

I finished a couple of books this week and overall spent a bit more time reading than I’ve had time to do lately! My kid and I set up an outdoor reading area, so we have been enjoying taking our books outside and spending the odd twenty minutes or so reading together while enjoying the birds and flowers in the garden. Inevitably we get distracted by an interesting insect or a new flower we hadn’t noticed and abandon our books to go and explore, but it has still been a lovely way to get a little bit of reading in!

Just Shelved

I finished two books this week, In a Sunburned Country is one I was re-reading and thoroughly enjoyed. Bryson at his best. Locally Laid was a whim, but also one I quite liked. It’s about a family who decide to start an egg farm that is based on pasture raised hens and local markets. It’s an interesting look at the challenges they faced, as well as what they learned.

Currenly Reading

I’m nearly finished A Vicious Circle, which is a mixed reading experience so far. Excellently written, but a little tough going because the characters are challenging or challenged, and it’s a critical look at class-based society in London which is always a tough reality to face. Growing Old is an easy one to listen to while I’m doing other things, and has some interesting points to think about. Right now it has me thinking about the benefits and drawbacks of senior living facilities, and what it must be like to live in one of them. I don’t think it sounds that bad, if you’re not in too bad health and are able to participate in some of the activities on offer. It’s an interesting thing to consider, but also a little difficult, of course!

I kind of skipped over the TBR I had set last week and got into two books that weren’t on it, but I still want to get to these. Maybe next week.

That was it for my week of reading! What about you guys? Did you read any good books this week? Anyone else been enjoying time in their garden?

A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date.

What a great idea to set up an outdoor reading area where you can read and do some things in nature!

Locally Laid sounds like something my d-i-l and my s-i-l would both enjoy. They are both trying to raise chickens for their eggs. And I’m curious about Growing Old; I’m quite interested in growing old with grace.

I love it because it melds two of my favourite things! I love reading but also not feeling like I’m missing out on seeing a beautiful butterfly or interesting insect! I finished Growing Old last night – it’s an interesting look at all the different aspects of aging, from dealing with health issues to the options (and their pros and cons) of seniors living facilities, to the benefits of having time and freedom to use as you wish and the benefits of companion animals. I quite liked it and that it has both the practical and the positive!

Reading outdoors sounds great! I’ve been opening my patio door for some fresh air but still reading on my couch. Maybe I’ll get all the way outside this week. Your books – except for Braiding Sweetgrass – are all new to me. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

That also sounds lovely! Just getting fresh air is wonderful. We moved into a house last year that has established rose bushes, and in the summer whenever the breeze blows anywhere in the garden we get lovely wafts of rose scent. It’s so lovely to read in!
