LINK-UP | IT’S MONDAY! WHAT ARE YOU READING?

It’s one hell of a week this week, and last wasn’t great either. Lots going on and lots of stress. For me, it’s taking on most of the driving as my husband has started a new job, and trying to pass my road test so I can continue to do so when there’s no one who can accompany me. I failed a practice test yesterday, so I’m not feeling very confident! I know how to drive, and I don’t think I’m terrible, but I do suffer from test anxiety so as soon as I’m told it’s a test, all the things I know get frozen in my brain and I get overly cautious and second (or third) guess everything. I’m trying again, and studying everything I can find, but I have a history of needing at least two tries to pass this kind of test, so I’m not super hopeful. But all we can do is our best, right? Needless to say, I’m not reading much because I’m pretty busy, and when I’m not I’m completely emotionally and mentally drained. Focusing for 3+ hours a day is not easy when you have ADHD and are trying to learn a new skill that’s complex with lots of pressure! Hopefully next week will be slightly easier.

Just Shelved

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

My husband was listening to this and talking about it a bit, and it made me want to re-read it. Enjoyed it as much the second time as I did the first!

Currently Reading

On Writing by Stephen King

I just started this one because my hold came in at the library. I’m not very far, and I don’t really know what to expect, but I’ve been hearing good things about it for years and am curious!

Up Next

Just Like You by Nick Hornby
Ejaculate Responsibly by Gabrialle Blair
Foreign Bodies by Amanda Craig
The Wild Silence by Raynor Winn

Matrescence by Lucy Jones
We Solve Murders by Richard Osman
Friends of Dorothy by Sandi Toksvig

Still not sure what I’ll be reading next, but also still interested in all of these and hoping to find time/energy to get to one or two over the next week!

That’s it for me this week. I’m off to sit in a chair without thinking or moving for half an hour before getting back in the car…. again! Have you read any of these? Any of my TBR that you’d recommend?

A weekly post that encourages bloggers to share what they have read in the past week, what they’re currently reading and books they’ve recently added to their TBRs. Originally started by Sheila at Book Journey, it is now hosted by Kathryn at The Book Date. I also link up with The Sunday Salon post each week hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz (and sometimes include some of her content prompts).

I have Project Hail Mary on my list, but just haven’t found time for it, and I’ve loved everything else I’ve read by Andy Weir. I’ve added it to my must read in 2025 list, so I guess that’s progress. Ejaculate Responsibly was already on that list.I’m currently reading We Solve Murders, and am enjoying it, but I miss all those characters from his Thursday Murder Club series.

I love PHM – I enjoyed re-reading it! I hope you find time for it next year! I am glad to hear you’re enjoying We Solve Murders, but I can definitely understand missing the TMC gang! They’re pretty fantastic. Hopefully he keeps going with both!

I’m so sorry that things are so stressful right now. I HATE to drive, but it’s the only way to get around where I live. Sending good thoughts toward your showcase of your driving skills (not a test…not a test…)

    • RAIN CITY READS says:

Yeah, I don’t mind driving in areas that aren’t as busy, but city driving is stressful. It’s the only way to affordably get around without spending all day in transit here too, so it’s necessary. Just not a fun activity! I passed my “not a test” LOL so thank you for the good thoughts! Phew! (Of course now I have to drive though…..)

I feel for you. My dad had ADHD, and it really stoked his anxiety about things. I hope have a better week ahead.

I love Andy Weir! Project Hail Mary is my very most favorite book ever! And I just added Ejaculate Responsibly to my TBR pile.

Yeah, ADHD is its own thing for sure. Tends to run in families, so I am pretty sure my mom has it too, and that makes sense of some of the things she has struggled with that I’ve also had similar issues with. Anxiety is pretty common, particularly with undiagnosed or late-diagnosed folks for sure! I love Andy Weir as well, I really enjoyed my re-read! Glad to add to your TBR!
