MONTHLY WRAP-UP | APRIL 2015

I had another good reading month in March – lots of books finished, and quite a range of selections. Some books amused me, others inspired me, and still others (*ahem* A Little Life *ahem*) utterly destroyed me.

I also started school again (I’m doing classes in editing), began planting my patio garden and ended up briefly in the hospital (don’t worry, I’m home and seem to be fine!). Spring is just around the corner, and though in my part of the world the end of winter and the beginning of spring both basically mean rain, there’s still a little frisson in the air if you really look for it.

Books Read April

Books I read in April:

  • The Sweetness At the Bottom of the Pie – Alan Bradley (Not yet reviewed)
  • Anne of the Island – L.M. Montgomery (Not yet reviewed)
  • We Should All Be Feminists – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Not yet reviewed)
  • Anne of Windy Poplars – L.M. Montgomery (Not yet reviewed)
  • Crime Seen – Kate Lines
  • Blood On Snow – Jo NesbΓΈ
  • A Little Life – Hanya Yanagihara (Not yet reviewed)
  • God Help the Child – Toni Morrison
  • Nothing Like Love – Sabrina Ramnanan
  • Citizen – Claudia Rankine (Not yet reviewed)
  • Dept. of Speculation – Jenny Offill (Not yet reviewed)

I read seven of the ten books I said I was going to read in April, and given what a mood reader I am, I’d say that’s pretty good!

Other things you might have missed in April:

Looking forward to May, I’ve got some great books coming up! I’m part way through a few different books, all of which I’m enjoying. And I’ve got quite a few lined up!

Books I plan to read in May:

That about closes the book (sorry, couldn’t resist) on April. What about you guys? Read any great books in the past month? Got any great reading planned for May? Share in the comments!

I LOVED Flavia. I mean, there were points where the plot didn't quite pull it off, but I didn't even care because I loved the character so much. I'm looking forward to having time for the next book in the series!

Citizen and A Little Life were both very powerful. Citizen isn't my normal type of read, nonetheless I was glad I gave it a shot. A Little Life is possibly the best book I've read in the last few years – it's huge, it's detailed and it will break your heart, but it's totally worth it. Looking forward to hearing what you think!

Aggghh! I love Flavia so I hope Sweetness was a hit for you. I just downloaded Citizen, and I can't wait to read it. Same with A Little Life!

Yeah, really interesting so far. Oh, I know the feeling! I have so many books on my TBR at the moment, it's ridiculous. And I'm also reading several books at once! I seem to be on the mend, but it's still too soon to tell. Fingers crossed! I hope you get a chance to catch up on some reading in May!

Yep, learning a lot! I'm looking forward to The Shore. Though I'm not sure when I'll have time to get to OEND. Yeah, nothing so bad as when I went to hospital, though I'm definitely still not 100%. And I miss beer! πŸ™

I did! Thank you! I hope you have a fabulous May as well. And that you get to read some of these – excellent selection this month!

I started OEND and I do like it! Unfortunately I also have three review copies to finish ASAP and I need to read Life After Life because I want to read A God In Ruins next month. So that's taking priority! If you decide to read it in the near future let me know – there's a good chance we'll end up reading it at the same time! I've heard good things about Boo, so I'm looking forward to it!

Those editing classes sound cool! Hope you enjoy them! I barely found time to read much in April but I hope May will be better. I am reading a bunch of books at the same time right now, I am such a mess. So glad you are feeling better, worried about you!

Excellent reading month! I think you will really like Our Endless Numbered Days! I will also be reading The Shore this month as well πŸ™‚ Am REALLY hoping to get to A Little Life – maybe even as my next read, but we'll see. I was really hoping I'd get an e-ARC of Boo, but I must not be cool enough yet πŸ˜‰
