It’s been a long time since I’ve written a My Week On Wednesday post, because it’s been a loooooong time since I’ve finished a book. I’m not entirely sure why that is – maybe it’s the weather changing, maybe it’s that I’ve been busy, maybe I’ve just been more into watching TV and knitting. Whatever the reason, books just haven’t been happening much lately. But I finally did manage to finish off one this week, so here’s a little overview of where I’m at now (including the TV….).
Just shelved:
This is the book that has had me stuck for the better part of a month. Now, as I mentioned in the intro, it wasn’t entirely the book’s fault. Given another time of year and set of circumstances, I might have zoomed through it in a week. But it was just challenging enough to keep me stuck. I’ll be going into all the details in my review, so stay tuned if you want to know more.
Currently reading:
I’ve been feeling a bit run down and tired lately, and the darker days and extra rain haven’t helped. When I get to feeling like this I want nothing more than to grab a few basics and hit the road to… well, pretty much anywhere. So I’m reading a book about a couple who dropped everything to travel around the world… without ever leaving the earth’s surface. It’s an easy read, and I enjoy hearing about the process of traveling without airplanes. I don’t think it’ll be an all-time favourite, but it’s definitely enjoyable.
Up next:
This is always a hard one, because I’m very much a mood reader. But I think one of these is probably going to be up next.
Currently watching:
I adored the book Mindhunter by John Douglas, which I found after becoming fascinated by the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of the FBI via the wonderful show, Criminal Minds. John Douglas is one of the agents who helped to establish the BAU, and the book is amazing. This show is based on his experiences and features a lot of fascinating background on the development of criminal profiling.
The Brave is one I watched when I ran out of other shows to watch. I didn’t expect to enjoy it anywhere near as much as I do. It’s a bit reminiscent of Spooks (or MI-5 if you’re in the UK), one of my all-time favourite shows. This is about an elite military team who are sent into foreign countries to carry out covert missions – they’re basically the best of the best. It has dark and complex situations, good relationships between characters, and is highly entertaining and fast paced. It’s a great one if you just want to lose yourself in some action for a while.
So that’s it for my week! What are you guys reading? What are you watching? I’d love some recommendations – both of shows similar to these for me to watch alone, or for good sitcoms or other shows that aren’t too inappropriate to have on in the background when the baby is awake!
My Week On Wednesday is a weekly post in which I share with you what I’ve been reading, what I’m reading next, and any other bookish stuff I enjoyed in the past week! If you’d like to write your own My Week On Wednesday post, or if you’d just like to share your recent reads, feel free to link or chat in the comments! I’ve started Mindhunter and I’m totally intrigued. I still have a ways to go, but it is feeding my Criminal Minds love!
