This week’s Top Ten Tuesday on The Broke and the Bookish is: Top Ten Authors I’d Love To Meet. Well, I mean I’d love to meet pretty much all of them. But here are some of the top ones that come to mind:
I have so much admiration for this lady. Not only the wonderful worlds she has created and the unforgettable characters she populated them with, but her intelligence, wit and integrity. I love that she continues to challenge herself and is determined to stand up for what she believes in.
Who wouldn’t want to meet this guy? One imagines he’d be very entertaining to hang out with.
Matthew Quick is not only a brilliant author, but a personable, friendly guy (if interactions with him on Twitter are anything to go by!). I loved The Silver Linings Playbook, and admire the sensitivity and understanding he had for Pat and Tiffany.
I am in awe of Leganski’s imagination. I have no idea how she came up with the idea for The Silence of Bonaventure Arrow, but I’m first in line for whatever she writes next. Literally, I’ll line up to read a take-out menu with her name on it.
Not only a gifted YA author, but one of the most hilarious authors on Twitter.
The other most hilarious author on Twitter.
Newjack, Conover’s account of the year he spent working as a prison guard, was impeccably written, brilliantly observed and full of insights into not only the large-scale issues the US prison system has, but the day-to-day challenges encountered by prisoners and guards alike.
A new favourite of mine, I was blown away by Christie’s loosely autobiographical novel, If I Fall, If I Die. It was beautifully written and full of characters you couldn’t help but love.
I would absolutely love to meet the woman who conceived of A Little Life. That book literally took my breath away, and is one of the most intense reading experiences I’ve ever had.
I recently read my first Morrison novel (God Help the Child) and was blown away by Morrison’s minimalist language studded with poignant lines that stood out and stuck with me.
There are so many more I’d love to meet – as you can tell, many on this list are ones I’ve read recently as they came to mind first. But there are actually very few authors I wouldn’t want to meet!
What about you guys? Which authors would you just love to spend an afternoon with? Share in the comments!
Toni Morrison! Great choice.

Great list!! I included J.K. Rowling as well. I had the chance to meet Maggie Stiefvater at BEA last year or she definitely would have made my top ten. I hope you have the chance to meet some of them soon!!
