I’m very lucky because I’m at a point in my life where if I really want a book, I can just get it. There are exceptions to this, though. Some are out of print, others I can only find in damaged editions or at prices I’m not willing to pay. I don’t know if I can come up with ten, but there are definitely a few!
All the Penguin Ink books
I love tattoo art and street art. I collected the Penguin Street Art series when it came out, but I somehow missed this one until a lot of editions had sold out. I have some, but there are others I’ve not been able to find affordably, so this is definitely still on my list.
Signed copy of Good Omens
I know this one would be impossible – it was written so long ago and now one of the authors has sadly passed away. But I still have it on my wish list, regardless of whether it’s one I’ll ever check off.
Waterstones special edition of The Book of Dust with a different animal
When this came out, Waterstones (a bookstore chain in the UK, for those of you who aren’t familiar) came out with a gorgeous clothbound special edition that had an animal inside the front cover. There were a few different animals available. I finally relented and ordered it, which was a big investment. The down side was that I couldn’t choose which animal I got. Unfortunately the only one I wasn’t crazy about was the snake, and the snake is what I got.
Harry Potter box set
I’m not sure which edition I want, there are a few I like. But I’d love to have an actual box and matching covers. Right now I have a few random copies that don’t match and are pretty dog-eared. I think the closest I’ll get is collecting all the illustrated editions, which I’m getting to share with my daughter.
Folio editions of pretty much anything
I love folio editions. They are usually beautifully bound with slip covers. I have a couple – my mother passed down her set of Jane Austen to me and I picked up this copy of Graham Greene’s Travels with My Aunt in a used bookstore. They’re hella expensive so I doubt I’ll ever add more to my collection, but they are always on the list.
Particular edition of One Hundred Years of Solitude
I picked up this edition of One Hundred Years of Solitude when I was traveling in Europe as a teenager. I didn’t read it right away and ended up passing it on to a visitor who was traveling and had run out of reading material. I don’t regret sharing it – it’s a wonderful story, and I wasn’t using it at the time – but for some reason I keep looking out for this edition in used bookstores. I doubt I’ll ever come across it again, but it does have some fond associations for me.
A nice edition of I Capture the Castle
I don’t like the covers of this book, and I wish they’d come out with a lovely hardcover classic edition. Maybe a Penguin clothbound or Everyman’s Library edition. Or just a paperback with a decent cover!
That’s all I can think of for this one. I’m sure there are lots more I could include, but that’s all that come to mind. I’d love to know which you guys have on your lists this week. Did you go for books you’ll likely pick up one day but haven’t yet, or do you have more elusive out of print or rare books on your list?

That Harry Potter box set is amazing. I want it, too.
