One of the best parts of being a parent is when my daughter curls up on my lap and we read one book after another. She loves being read to, she loves talking about what she sees in the books and asking questions, and I enjoy sharing my love of books with her – and hopefully starting a lifelong enjoyment of reading for her. There are so many amazing kid’s books out there, so I figure this is a great opportunity to share some of my favourites!
Now, I’m aware that this list is not as diverse as it should be. We do have a few more diverse books, they just don’t happen to be the ones I love reading for their stories as much as these ones, though I know they are more important. I have been trying to search out some more books by Black authors in particular, so hopefully soon this list will have shifted to be a better representation of what I want my daughter to see in the world!
What about you guys? Which books do you wish you’d read as a child? Do you have any great diverse books to recommend?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.

How awesome that your daughter loves books! My 18yo daughter has always been my book buddy – we read books together when she was little, we’d go to the library together all the time, and for her birthdays, she always requested a trip to the bookstore. It’s so fun to have a child who loves to read!
Happy TTT!

I’m so glad you’re able to share your love of reading with your little girl 🙂 I’ve actually got quite a few of these still on my shelves. Although I no longer have young ones around (my youngest is 11 and doesn’t need me like that anymore 🙁 so sad), I can’t seem to let go.
Here’s my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Olivia is such a fun read. I loved reading that one to my daughter when she was really little.
Glad to know someone else appreciates Alexander. https://pmprescott.blogspot.com/2020/09/ttt-090820.html
Your daughter is so fortunate to be able to enjoy all of these wonderful books. And, yes, the diverse books of today. There were no diverse books in my young life.
Ooh, The Darkest Dark looks good!
