This week’s Top Ten Tuesday on The Broke and the Bookish is: Top Ten Books I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Read In X Genre. I’m going to pick a few different genres, as my reading regrets certainly aren’t limited to one!
Classics:
Frankenstein – Mary Shelly
Dracula – Bram Stoker
The Count of Monte Cristo – Alexandre Dumas
Literary Fiction:
All the Light We Cannot See – Anthony Doerr
The Goldfinch – Donna Tartt
Until I Find You – John Irving
Thriller/Mystery:
The Keeper of Lost Causes – Jussi Adler Olsen
Non-Fiction/Memoir:
Tibetan Peach Pie – Tom Robbins
Young Adult:
Speak – Laurie Halse-Anderson
The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian – Serman Alexie
But honestly, this is just a start. There are so many books I can’t believe I haven’t read – in every genre (as I discussed a few weeks ago in my Book Thoughts on Thursday post about being well-read).
That's actually really interesting to hear. I enjoy diverging opinions, because I have so many myself! I read the first 50 pages or so, and I thought it had promise, but wasn't in the mood for the tension of an epic war novel. I'll go back to it at some point, but will try not to get my hopes up too high! Thanks for sharing your thoughts – now if I'm not blown away, I won't feel like a total freak! (That happens to me a lot…)

Yeah, there's always at least a few on the list!

Yeah? That's good to hear. I'm nervous about the books that are so well-known, particularly Dracula since it spawned an entire sub-genre!

Yeah, I think that's why I've been putting it off – I know it will be intense. I saw the movie, which obviously is nowhere near the book, but I know what I'll be getting into. It's one I know I have to read, though!

Yeah, I REALLY need to read that one!
Yeah, I REALLY need to read that one!
I'm about 1/3 of the way through The Goldfinch. It's well-written, but dense and really vivid. You'll feel like you're IN it when you're reading, and it's not an easy story to read. I found that I couldn't power through it, though I do intend to go back to it and finish! I have all the Department Q books on my shelf (picked them up for a steal) and have started the first one, which I know I'm going to like. I'm looking forward to them!

That's great to hear! I've heard good things about both Frankenstein and Dracula, and they're not too long, which is always a plus! Not sure when I'll get to them (somehow my TBR just never seems to shrink at all…) but I'll share my thoughts here if/when I do! And I also love those clothbound editions. So beautiful!

I just finished All The Light We Cannot See recently, and I have to say I seem to be in the minority that wasn't blown away by it. Very interesting premise, and I really enjoy historical fiction, but by the halfway mark I became frustrated with it and sped read the rest of it. I felt it could have been quite a bit shorter and would have packed more of a punch! R x
