This week’s Top Ten Tuesday on The Broke and the Bookish is: Ten Books People Keep Telling Me I MUST Read. Which there are a lot of, but these are the first that come to mind in no particular order:
Okay, go ahead and tell me how much I’m missing out and that I must read one (or more) of these RIGHT NOW! //<![CDATA[ var sc_project=10144299; var sc_invisible=1; var sc_security="82f610c9"; var scJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? I read Animal Farm in high school and thought the social commentary aspect was pretty well done. I started 1984, and I think the thing I struggled with was that it kind of depressed me. I have read a fair amount of YA dystopian books, but more because I heard good things about the characters and stories and they just happened to be dystopian. I don't know if I'm really into dystopian as a genre per se. But I feel like it's one of those everyone is supposed to read at some point, so I might get around to it! GoT I want to read, but I feel like it'll take me so long that I'll get really behind on reviews for the blog, so that's the main reason I've been putting it off! I've got the box set, though, so I really should give it a go.

I tried to read OTR with a friend a while ago and really struggled, until eventually giving up. I think I missed the age when it would have been worth the uphill battle! Looking for Alaska and Cinder seem to be getting a lot of response – so it looks like I should move them back near the top of the TBR!

Yeah, but it seems like more of a commitment than getting married! Not only is the one book HUGE but there are MORE of them! And I do not read as fast as you!

I got part of the way through Looking for Alaska, I think I'll finish it eventually. I just got scared off after reading Paper Towns and didn't want another disappointing John Green experience! I've started Cinder before, and I have heard once I get into it, I'll devour the whole series! I'm kind of saving it!

Yeah, I tried to read it and… meh. I feel like I might have felt differently if I'd read it in high school, but in my 30s I think I'm past the age where that type of thing seems romantic and full of mystery.

I tried to start Code Name Verity, and I got like 20 pages in and was like “Yeah, I don't think I have the constitution for this kind of book.” I'll give it another try if I'm ever feeling as stoic as you. 😉
I read the beginning of Cinder too! It seemed original and I liked the world-building, but I've never been a huge fan of most fairytales, so the re-writing of them isn't an automatic win for me. I think I'll go back and read them one day, just not today. Your recommendation is making me consider it, since you know your stuff!

Oh I've read a few of these! Okay 1984 is pretty creepy and a pretty good book, if you love Dystopian books then READ it. It's quite heavy going and dark though, definitely not a light read. Cinder I literally just finished this week and feel like I've been missing out on so much by not reading it up until that point. It's definitely my favourite of the ones I've read on your list! Shadow & Bone is another great one, it's sequel 'Siege & Storm' made my list! Game Of Thrones is the only Song Of Ice & Fire book I've read and again I thought it was fantastic. It's really long though so prepare to dedicate a vast amount of reading time to that book if you decide to give it a try!

Great List!! Looking for Alaska, Cinder, and Game of Thrones are all on my TBR list. They just didn't make my top ten this week. I tried reading On the Road for our book club read along. I made it about half way and had to pull the plug. That book is a bit over rated in my opinion, but maybe you will enjoy it.

Well, I'll happily tell you that you must read Game of Thrones!!! 😀

I can't be too harsh on you for not reading any of these books, because I've actually only read Looking for Alaska (which, by the way, READ IT!) I've tried reading Under the Dome but I didn't even get 100 pages in. It's just too dang huge! I'm watching the tv series now though, lol. Cinder and Shadow & Bone are two that I get told to read a LOT. They're on my TBR, as well as 1984! One day I'll make it to them!

I thought On the Road was an enormous waste of time. Awful, I thought. The ramblings of a bunch of hormonal young men. Just my two cents.

Code Name Verity is AMAZING but a bit slow at the beginning. I literally bawled my eyes out and I never ever ever cry. I mean, come now! I'm stoic! I'm strong! I….was reduced to a screaming heap. And I'm even terrified of the sequel, even though it's not about the same characters. *sigh* Goodbye feels, when I read book #2. I didn't want you anyway.
Cinder is also awesome. Although I did originally DNF it. Heh. But now it's my favourite series. Funny how that works, right?! 😉
