I’ve been reading a lot of fantastic books about race and racism. Last week I shared some quotes on the topic, and this week I’m sharing some of the books I’ve read that have really stuck with me. One of the best, probably unsurprisingly, is The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin. So if you like this book (or any of the below), here are some more you should try:
And a few more I’ve read part of and want to finish soon:
Hopefully you’ve already heard of or read some of these, and maybe you’ve found a couple more to add to your TBR! Each of these were excellent and all explore varied and important aspects of what race means and how racism affects nearly every aspect of life for people it is wielded against. I’d love to hear from you guys if you have read any of these or if you have any other books you’d recommend on the topic!
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
I definitely want to read the Trevor Noah one after having been to South Africa last year!

Oooh! I’ve never been to Africa, but there are some areas I wish I could get to. How was it? I know you’re a fellow audiobook listener, so I’d definitely recommend the audiobook of this one, as Noah reads it himself!
Amazing, I definitely want to go back, as I mainly stayed in and around Cape Town, so I’d like to go back and explore a bit more outside of the Western Cape! Oh yes, I love memoirs where the author reads them themselves, good shout 🙂
Maybe give it a little while until Omicron settles down, though, yeah? Ugh. What times we are living in! I hope you get to give it a try; I got a lot out of it for sure!
Oh yeah, I’m not going to be going abroad anywhere anytime soon!
Haha! The longer this goes on the more I feel like maybe I just won’t ever travel again.
It does definitely feel that way sometimes! I hope not though, I love travelling and seeing new places.
Yeah, I have some great memories for sure.
Me too 🙂
Great choice of a topic! My post: https://susanlynknits.com/2021/11/16/top-ten-tuesday-books-to-read-if-you-love-game-of-thrones/
Thank you!
I read We Are Not Free earlier this year, and it easily became one of my favorite books of the year. I love the way it was written, and the story it tells.

I’m really glad I discovered it. An important part of history that I don’t think many people are aware of – but should be!
Born a Crime was amazing…and I really want to read the Coates book.
Happy TTT!

I loved them both. Definitely recommend Coates – it’s not that long, and so moving!
Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race was a really good book. I learned a lot from it, too. I have a few others of these on my TBR that I need to get to soon.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
It really was. I’m glad I finally got to it!
Great selection of books. Happy reading.
Thank you, to you as well!
Born a Crime was such a good read.
