I have a hard time trusting books about animals. I can handle a lot of difficult stuff in books, but not bad things happening to animals, and I feel like a lot of books with animals in them don’t end well for said animals. I’ve spent my entire life avoiding reading Charlotte’s Web, for exactly this reason! So here are a few I’ve read but more that I’ve just heard of!
What about you guys? Anyone else out there who has a hard time with books about animals? Any books about animals you have read and loves, particularly if they don’t end horribly for the animals in them (you don’t have to share spoilers, just say that it’s animal safe or something!)?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
I also have a hard time trusting books with animal covers. I was traumatized by too many of them as a kid.
Right? I haven’t recovered from some of the ones I read to this day!
Animal Farm is a fantastic read. Happy reading! My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/books-with-animals/
Yes, I found that a really interesting one when I read it in high school!
That street cat is so cute!
Yes! So cute!
I love books about animals, but you are right that a lot them don’t end well for the animals in them (and come to think of it quite a few of my favourites don’t….why do I do this to myself?!). I’ve watched the film version of A Street Cat Named Bob and since it’s based on the book, I do know that one is animal safe if it’s one you’re wanting to read!

Yes, it really doesn’t end well for a lot of them (or us sensitive readers!) I didn’t know they had made a film of Street Cat! I’ll have to look for that one!
I got so stumped this week. I should have looked at your post first since you and I read so many of the same books. BTW Do you like the Thursday Club book?
My TTT list of animal titles
Yeah, it took me quite some time! Have you read some of these? I did enjoy it, I liked that I didn’t guess most of the twists and the characters are unique in that they’re older and not portrayed as weaker because of it. I found it oddly empowering and uplifting! I’m just starting the second one, so I’m interested to see if it’s as good.
