I’m not big on Halloween, particularly when it comes to books. I don’t like scary books. I hate horror. I’m not good with creepy. I don’t like ghost stories, hauntings, things living in walls, blood dripping down them, strange noises in the night, foggy nights, things that move in an unnatural fashion or twins with blonde ringlets and matching frilly frocks. No thank you. So when it comes to Halloween posts, I don’t have a lot to contribute. So this year I’m picking one of the only things associated with Halloween that doesn’t give me the skeevies – cats. Here are some of our favourite kids’ books with cats, and a couple others I’ve either read or want to read.
Some of these are centred around a cat or the cats in them, others have a cat who is more peripheral. A couple I haven’t read yet (Master and Margarita) so I’m not really sure what role the cat plays. The kids ones are mostly ones that we’ve read many, many times (some are part of ongoing series that we’ve also continued on with, like Zoey and Sassafras and Kitty).
What about you guys? Have you read any books that have important cats in them? Have you read any of these?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
Pete the Cat is always a lot of fun.

Agreed!
Yay for kitties! 😀 Mog the Forgetful Cat looks super cute.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
I love Mog! I kind of identify with her!
Aww, I love the covers. Cats are one of the best parts of Halloween.
Agreed!
Awww, I love Pete the Cat! He’s such a cool kitty 🙂 I was at a Halloween costume shop yesterday and they had a Pete the Cat costume. That I can get behind 🙂
Happy TTT!

Oh wow! That would be an AWESOME costume!
Splat the Cat and Mog look so adorable. I wish I could be a kid again and gobble up all these books. I’m familiar with Master & Margarita — but T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book is such a great find! And I’m with you on not liking scary books or movies, though every October, I do try out at least one spooky thing. 🙂
I’ve loved discovering new kids books with my kid. I’m finding that a lot of them (the good ones) can be just as enjoyable to read as an adult!
Love your twist on the topic. I’ve only read The Travelling Cat Chronicles and loved it.
Happy reading!

I haven’t read that one yet, but I keep hearing good things!
I thought I was the only one! I swear, I’m taking next October off!

Happy TTT!

I generally used to just ignore it, but now I have a kid that’s not really an option! The worst part is the fireworks. They kill the air quality and I’m allergic to smoke, so I end up with plastic over my window, my air purifier on full blast, and an N95 mask on still feeling ill. But it’s lovely to see my kid in a costume and having fun!
Splat the Cat and Pete the Cat were favorites in my house. Some times I miss the simplicity of those books, but my youngest is now 13 and well beyond them.

I have a feeling I’m going to revisit them even when mine is too old for them! We’re on to chapter books now, but I still enjoy them!
All of these books look so cute!
