Any of you who have been here for a while known summer and I do not get along. I don’t do well with heat, I am allergic to pollen and air pollution (which increases during hot temperatures), and I burn super easily. So you won’t find me lounging on a beach during summer, you’ll find me hiding inside like a vampire! So the only way I actually get to enjoy summer is through books. Here are a few I’ve either read and enjoyed, or that I’m looking forward to. They’re not all strictly speaking summer books, but they give me that feeling of freedom and relaxation and warmth that comes with summer, so they’re on the list.
Some of these books I haven’t read yet (Malibu Rising, The Breaking of a Wave, Summer), but the rest either were set in summer or warm climates, or they just evoked that summer feeling for me when I was reading. I enjoyed all of them – some were a bit of fun, others were excellent. But all of them definitely made me feel like I was basking in sunshine.
What about you guys? Which books are you excited to read this summer to put you in the warm weather mood? Which books do you pick up on rainy days to evoke that sunny feeling? Have you read any of the books on my list?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
I’m with you on summer. It’s always been my least favorite season, mostly because I can’t stand the heat. I don’t do well in it either. Unfortunately, I live in Arizona where it’s pretty much hot all the time. Luckily, I have air conditioning and a swimming pool, so I manage to survive! LOL.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Haha I hear ya! I would not last a week there! Summer is hard for me, also because of the pressure to love it and do all the outdoor summery things that I just can’t. Talk about fomo!
New-to-me cover of Under the Tuscan Sun! All are great picks!
I chose this one because it was the one I actually read back in high school!
A nice summery looking list. I am not a fan of summer either. I am very much a vampire too! Luckily here in the UK our summer can vary – although being in the South East it tends to be warmer and sunnier here!
Have a great week!

Ah yes. Climate is similar here – I have family in the south east of England and have spent some summertimes there! But that was long enough ago that it feels like we now live in a different world with all the heat domes and heatwaves that keep hitting us. I hope your summer is a conformable temperature this year! Thanks for stopping by!
We have two of the same books. I love this one summer. it is the perfect coming-of-age tale. sorry no caps. i hurt my pinky and it takes too much effort to change my typing style. have a good day.
Yes it really was! Oh no I’m so sorry to hear about your injury! I hope it is beginning to feel better!
Malibu Rising screams summer to me. I included it today as well.
Absolutely!
I also don’t get along all that well with summer, I have hayfever too so the warm summer days full of pollen are a nightmare and I also burn quite easily, so I’m very happy when the cooler days of autumn encroach. I’ve not read any of these, I’ve heard of Durrell’s books because of the TV series based on them, but I’ve neither read the books nor seen the TV show. I’ve been meaning to get to The House In The Cerulean Sea for ages because it’s so widely raved about online, but I still haven’t got around to it yet.

Yes. Summer and I are not compatible! Shame, really, because I do love gardening and I have seasonal affective disorder, so it should be fantastic for me! I very much enjoyed the Durrell TV show and the first two books (I have yet to read the third). And The House on the Cerulean Sea really is delightful, if it is your cup of tea!
Free Days with George looks absolutely adorable, any cover with a dog and I’m sold.
Here’s my summery TTT (:
Haha yep! It was a really enjoyable and heart-warming book, so definitely a good one if you’re a fan of dog books!
It would make for a miserable life if I couldn’t handle summer…It’s summer here all year long.
Sunburned Country is perfect.
Haha yeah, I would not survive in the south! I love it in theory, it’s just my body disagrees, very unfortunately. And I agree, it is hilarious!
Emily’s books always have the great summer vibes! The stories inside look like they’re all summer-esque too. 🙂
Yeah I haven’t read many, but the ones I tried definitely did have the vibe!
