There are some fantastic characters out there, and some equally brilliant names. Here are a few that top my list of ones I’d love to call out while walking a dog in the park or petting a purring kitten!
Crawley and Aziraphale from Good Omens
Lord Voldemort, Bellatrix Lestrange, Molly Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Mrs Norris and Peeves (among many others) from the Harry Potter series
Scout, Jem or Atticus (Finch) from To Kill A Mockingbird
Gilbert Blythe from the Anne of Green Gables series
Jeeves or Wooster from the P.G. Wodehouse series
Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple from the Agatha Christie books
David Copperfield from Charles Dickens’ book of the same name
Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye
The Artful Dodger from Oliver Twist (I think)
Spider Jerusalem from the Transmetropolitan graphic novel series
Sherlock Holmes and Watson or James Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes books
Paddington from the Paddington series
Dorian Gray from The Picture of Dorian Gray
Melquiades from One Hundred Years of Solitude
Ford Prefect or Zaphod Beeblebrox from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
John Yossarian (for a cat) from Catch 22
Kilgore Trout (for a pet fish) from Breakfast of Champions (I think)
Mina Harker from Dracula
Tyler Durden from Fight Club
Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
And two authors:
Oscar Wilde
Hunter S. Thompson
Phew. Okay, I admit, I may have gotten just a little carried away this week! But it was quite fun. Did you have any of my picks on your list? Any others to add?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
I think you’re the first person I’ve seen suggest Wooster and Jeeves this week, but those are perfect!
Right? I picture Wooster as a dumb but loveable golden retriever and Jeeves as an imperious and disdainful cat.
Great picks! Crowley and Aziraphale would are my favorites.

Yeah, me too.
Bellatrix reminded me of the YouTube show Super Cooper Sunday. Have you ever seen that? It’s a cute show a guy put together about his Golden Retriever. He also has a cat they named Bellatrix.
I haven’t, but I need to check it out!
I would love giving the name Lord Voldemort to the most non-threatening pet ever. Like a goldfish or a tiny mouse. Great picks!
I love that idea!!!
Some great choices here!

Thanks!
Luna is such a good pet name.
My <a href=“https://lydiaschoch.com/”>post.
Particularly since she was such a gentle character and had such affinity with animals.
The Artful Dodger is such a unique name!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
I feel like it would really work for a pet who tends to disappear, like a wandering cat or something!
