I absolutely adore this prompt. I’m a huge fan of gardening, and though I don’t go out walking as much as I should, whenever I do spend time in nature I always feel better. I have grown up in a part of the world that’s a temperate rainforest, which means I’ve got green around me most of the year. My kid goes to nature school and spends days hiking and walking and digging and climbing and comes home covered in mud and grinning from ear to ear. Anything that can make my kid that happy I’m a fan of. I also enjoy reading about people’s experiences in nature – whether it’s hiking, walking, mindful time spent outside or gardening. I love learning more about the wonders of the natural world and the creatures that live there (though I’d prefer to learn from book – we have had bears and cougars in our neighbourhood in the last year, and it’s not as pleasant going outside when you’re scared of getting eaten!). So this should be a fun prompt this week!
**Credit: my kid chose and positioned the images in this week’s graphic, so shout out for that wonderful creative flair!
Books about nature in general:
And books that fit the prompt:
That was fun! What did you guys come up with this week? Any of my books on your list? Have you read any of these books? Share your thoughts in the comments!
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
I read Wilding last summer and adored it! I’m currently reading The Butterfly Isles by Patrick Barkham, if you like butterflies I would definitely recommend 🙂
Oh I’m so excited to hear that you loved Wilding so much! I do love butterflies – my kid is obsessed. We spent the last couple of days planting seeds for flowers that will attract butterflies and bees! Definitely looking that book up immediately!
Ah, some lovely ones there! And ones I’ve been meaning to read, too.
Thanks! I love books about nature, a lot of these I haven’t read yet but am excited to get to! Thanks for stopping by!
What a thoughtful compilation of nature-oriented books. I am curious about the book by Katherine May.
Thank you! It’s interesting – I’ve now read the Katherine May one and a half times, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it both times, but I can’t really remember that much of it! I don’t know why. Normally that happens with books I don’t care for, but this one I adored. I think maybe I read it more with my feelings than my head, if that makes even the tiniest bit of sense? Anyway, well worth trying!
A Walk in the Woods is one of my favorites.
Me too! And it’s not even my favourite Bryson!
I’ve never heard of nature school, but it sounds awesome! Being out in nature is definitely good for the soul.
Happy TTT!

I hadn’t heard of it either until a friend told me about it. I’m so grateful for it, it has ended up being an even better fit than we knew at first due to ND diagnosis. I can’t imagine all day in a classroom! We are very lucky! Happy TTT to you as well!
Your whole post feels calming and comforting. And your little one did a great job with the graphic. I’m jealous they get to go to a nature school. My oldest would have thrived if it had been available when she was younger. Instead, she now works outside and tends to be dirty when she gets home.

Aw thank you so much! I’m very proud of the graphic – not bad for a little one! It’s been a great opportunity, but it’s a bit difficult to juggle. Hoping to be able to keep it up for a little bit longer at least! I think that’s wonderful that yours now works outside – she’s able to get her fill of dirt now! 🙂
Nice list! I enjoy going on walks, and I plant a vegetable garden every year. Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
I like gentle saunters, dunno if that counts as walks! But most of my outside time is spent either pottering about in my garden (now that I have one) or chatting across the fence with my lovely neighbours! I’m just starting to grow a garden and I’m excited to figure out which vegetables will do well here. Last year tomatoes and kale were the runaway winners!
Your kid did an amazing job! I love that your family is so immersed in nature and enjoying the outdoors so much! That’s such a wonderful thing to share.
Thank you! I agree! 😉 I’m not so good at it myself – I have asthma and allergies, and then in winter it’s, you know, WET. And cold. But I am managing to get outside more in the summer, and I can’t wait to start planting seeds for this summer’s garden! But I want my kid to very much be a nature sprite, it’s so helpful for mental health! Thanks for stopping by!
A great looking list. Pretty covers. I do love nature walks. We don’t get to do them too often these days.
Have a great week!

I love this collection of covers – so many soothing images of outside! Yeah, I haven’t been pushing myself to get out rain or shine, and I really should as allergy season is nearly upon us! I hope you have a great week as well! 🙂
Those are some very pretty covers
I agree!
Bryson’s book was hilarious! I’ll have to look for that shepherd book. I like reading about both animal domestication and occupational accounts, and it sounds like it fits both bills. My list was varied.
It was one of the first Bryson books I read, and I love him! I haven’t read the shepherding book yet, but it was popular enough in England that there was at least one follow up (Pastoral Song)! So if you enjoy it, there’s more!
There is something amazing about being out in nature. I am always on the lookout for more books that take me into nature, so I thank you for this list. I will look for Isabella Tree’s Wilding and Frances Tophill’s Rewild Your Garden.
I agree, and reading about it is sometimes even better – less wet and cold!! I am as well, so always happy to share my newest discoveries! You may already be familiar – if so ignore this – but Frances Tophill is a British TV gardener, which is where I heard of her. She was on Love Your Garden with Alan Titchmarsh and recently has been one of the gardeners featured on Gardeners’ World. Just in case you would like to check those out! I hope you enjoy them!
