I’m getting old. I mention this, because my memory is not what it used to be. I can’t remember the names of songs I just listened to, I find myself forgetting not only what films were about, but whether or not I’ve even watched them until I’m halfway through. I’ve had a feeling a lot lately that I’ve absolutely done a topic before. Sometimes I go and search my blog, and discover either I never did it, or if I did, I can’t find it. But this one I actually did write before! Last summer! It’s right here. YAY I’m not losing my mind! (Or, not on this particular issue, anyway.)
That said, I now don’t have a new topic for this week. So I’m going to do a little riff. I’m going to share some imaginary settings I’d really love to visit.
- Marsyas Island from The House in the Cerulean Sea. I loved how this island was described. I loved that it was remote, but not too far remote. I loved that it was wild and full of scope for adventure. I loved the house and its occupants.
- Hogwarts. I’m sorry, I had to.
- The Shire. Most of The Lord of the Rings I would not want to be living in. It would be stressful, and I bet Orcs are smelly. But the Shire seemed lovely, and I wouldn’t mind a hobbit hole of my own as long as it had room for my books.
- The Secret Garden. Every time I read that book I imagine it differently, and every film version is different still. It’s an endless range of possibilities, and I know I’d love it there.
- Aziraphale’s bookshop from Good Omens. BOOKS!!!!!
- In a similar vein, Marks & Co. from 84, Charing Cross Road. I’ve dreamed about that bookshop. I’ve been to antiquarian bookshops in London, and one in particular that exists only in my memory, and I have no idea what it was called anymore, is how I imagine it to have been.
- Green Gables from the Anne of Green Gables series. The whole of P.E.I. in those books, really. It’s so beautiful and idyllic and full of wonder.
And a few places I absolutely would NOT want to visit:
- The rest of Middle Earth (Lord of the Rings).
- Narnia. I know a lot of you would probably LOVE to go there. Not me.
- Mars from The Martian. I’d love to hang out with Mark Watney, and if I had to go to Mars, he’s who I’d want to go with. But I think, on the whole, probably not, thanks.
What about you guys? Which fictional places would you love to visit? Which do not appeal to you in the least?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
I’d love to visit Aziraphale’s bookshop! 😀
Check out my TTT
Me too!!!!!
I love Hogwarts! And yes to Aziraphale’s bookshop, Good Omens may not have been my fave book, but I really want to visit that bookshop 🙂

Haha I remember your feelings on Good Omens, and try to remember to include a caveat when I talk about it now! But yeah, he probably read all the books ever published, so a great guide for a booklover!
Definitely!
Hogwarts is a great on to dream of visiting.

Right???
I love Green Gables, especially how it looks in the Anne with an E series. Happy reading! My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/ten-more-books-about-books/
I want to go to PEI one day – I think there is a real Green Gables you can at least go and see!
I also very, very old. I can’t remember…well, anything anymore! But, wow, yeah…I think most of us want to visit Hogwarts. I was looking at eyeglasses the other day, and got inappropriately exciteded by a pair of Hufflepuff frames. I mean, I’m OLD. But the lure of Hufflepuff is real, y’all.
Go, badgers!

Nothing wrong with that!
I definitely agree with #6 and #7. When I went to Londin in 1977 (Jubilee month even) I was heartsick at age 15 to not be able to even go by where Marks & Co had once been.
Yeah, I really wish it still existed! They’d get a lot of customers just from fans of the book!
Don’t be sorry for mentioning Hogwarts! Aside from the fact I’d fall to my death the first time one of those staircases moved on my my clumsy self, I think it’d be fascinating.
Also, kind of agree on Narnia. Tad bit dangerous. Hah.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Yeah, me too. I’d have to learn to float myself or conjure a parachute or something first!
Green Gables, Middle Earrh, Narnia — I love all of these worlds, can’t believe I forgot all about them. And I hear you on Hogwarts too, that was probably the first magical boarding school book that I ever read.
Are there other magical boarding school books??????
Sorry for the late reply here! But have you tried Sarah Gailey’s Magic for Liars? And the more recent series by Naomi Novik (A Deadly Education)? They are pretty good magical boarding school books too.
I haven’t! Thank you so much! (My turn – sorry for the late reply to the reply!)
Yes, Green Gables is idyllic. And oddly real.
I think it might actually be a real setting, though I believe the story is totally made up. I think if you go to PEI you can actually go and see Green Gables. One day!
Visiting Hogwarts would be so much fun!

As long as it wasn’t an ogre day or anything!
