I have to admit that, despite a large collection of beautiful made-to-purpose bookmarks, I often use whatever I have to hand as a bookmark. I have been known to use bus passes, random scraps of paper, flowers and leaves (hence today’s image), ticket stubs, granola bar wrappers and, on one memorable and short-lived occasion, one of my cat’s tails. But despite that, I do have some favourite bookmarks that I treasure not only for their use, but as objects. These are my favourites:
I love all three of these because of what they say, but I’m considering taking the tassles off them because they’re constantly getting in the way!
The first of these was one of those free cards they give out at Starbucks from several years ago. No idea why, but it has turned into one of my favourite bookmarks, and I keep using it instead of the fancier ones. I also love Blackwell’s free bookmarks they include with book orders. They’re made from textured paper that feels vintage, and I love the image and font on them. They’re wider than most bookmarks and shorter, which I like. And finally, the bookmark I picked up in a gift shop on a trip to one of my favourite places, New Orleans. I love it because of the associations and memories it brings up.
I’ve been ordering from The Book Depository for a long time, and so I’ve got a ton of their free bookmarks scattered through random books all over the house, as well as a massive stack of them on my bedside table. Some I don’t like, others are nothing special, then there are these ones, which are by far my favourites of the past few years!
These are an ingenious design. They clip onto the cover of your book and then give you a ribbon bookmark. The only down side is that sometimes the clip pinches too tightly and leaves a mark on the cover, so I won’t use these for books I really care about.
Two of these were presents from my husband. They’re beautiful and sentimental. I don’t use them as much as I should because I’m always worried about breaking them! I save them for special occasions.
What about you guys? What crazy things have you used for a bookmark? Do you have favourites you keep coming back to even if they’re not fancy? Do you use the free bookmarks from bookstores?

The Book Depository ones are so cool! A reason to order more books! 😉
My TTT!
Wow, that’s quite the collection! I do like the Book Depository bookmarks, if only I didn’t keep losing all my bookmarks! :'(
Those Bookjigs clip-on ribbon bookmarks look kinda cool. I suspect, though that they’re more useful for bullet journals that something you don’t want to leave a mark on.
I need that I read past my bedtime one! 🙂

I love that Soft Kitty book mark! I have it on a coffee mug, but I think I need that bookmark now, too!
Yes, these are very pretty bookmarks.
My TTT.
You have a nice collection there! I’ve used slips of paper a lot. Now that I’ve found magnetic bookmarks I usually use them.
These are beautiful bookmarks. I see why you love them.
Oooh, now I’m wondering where my Soft Kitty bookmark is, because I know I have one! I also have a few of those Book Depository bookmarks from orders.
Check out my Top 10

I didn’t know there were bookmarks with the phrase Keep Calm and Carry On written on them. Cool.
