I love books with strong female characters. I love it even more when they push boundaries are live in their weirdness or kick some ass. I like when characters in general surprise me, and that goes double for heroines (self-identified included).
- Molly Weasley, because she’s a complete badass and a great mum
- The Queen from The Uncommon Reader
- Jenny Pepper from Vigilante
- Anne from the Anne of Green Gables series
- Renée Ballard from Michael Connelly’s books
- Evelyn Skinner from Still Life
- Matilda from the Roald Dahl book
- Starr from The Hate U Give
- Veronica Mars from the books and TV series
- Miss Marple from Agatha Christie’s mysteries (though I have to admit I’ve only watched the adaptations and haven’t read the books yet… oops)
That’s it for me this week. This was oddly harder than I expected it to be, because while I notice awesome women while I’m reading, I’ve never kept a list or even thought about them in that context before. I’m sure you guys had some great responses for this prompt, so who am I missing? Which heroines do you love?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
I also enjoy stories with strong female leads. Veronica Mars and Matilda would definitely make my list as well. I’d also add Karigan from the Green Rider series.
Oh, two of my faves! I have not heard of the Green Rider series – who wrote it? If it’s anything like my favourite heroines, it sounds intriguing!
Molly Weasley, Miss Marple, Starr, and I would like to add Gloria/Silas from The Spirit Bares Its Teeth.
I haven’t read The Spirit Bares Its Teeth, but if characters from it stand next to the likes of Molly Weasley I will have to add it to my TBR! Thank you!
You’ve got a lot of classics on your list this week!
Molly Weasley, Anne Shirley, and Matilda are the only characters on this list that I’m familiar with, but I ADORE them all. They’re all great and memorable heroines.
Happy TTT!

Matilda was on my list this week too!

I had Starr from the Hate U Give, too. Unfortunately it was kind of hard to think of heroines.
Yeah, I definitely had to put on my thinking cap!
I love Anne! She didn’t make my top ten , but I love her a lot. And I need to get around to reading Miss Marple too lol
I adore her. Canadian thing, I think – at least in part! I haven’t read Marple, but love the TV shows, so I’m counting it!
Matilda made my list too! I wanted to be her when I was a kid.
Right???!!!? I wanted to be her best friend and learn from her. She came up with some cracking pranks!
Molly Weasley is in fact a badass — such a good heroine to have on the list.
Happy Tuesday!
I adore her, even more now that I’m a mom. I love how many sides there are to her, and how she’s a loving, soft, cosy mom while also being someone you do NOT want to get on the bad side of! I suppose she’d have to be, raising Fred and George!
I love that you chose Starr!
I liked the complexity of her character and how much she evolved through the book. Definitely a stand out for me!
