This week’s topic is favourite places to read. When it comes down to it, these days I don’t really have many options – it’s my bed, my armchair or my kitchen barstools. But throughout my life, there have been lots of places I’ve really loved curling up or lounging with a good book. So here are some examples.
1) On transit. I love to read on the move – doesn’t matter if it’s a regular commute or an international flight or a train. The only exception is cars, because I can get a little motion sick. I didn’t used to – when I was a kid I used to be fine reading in the backseat of the car – but as an adult it’s a bit more difficult.
2) In a library or bookstore. I love finding a quiet corner and taking the opportunity to peruse some of the books I’ve discovered on the shelves, sampling the different worlds and deciding which to take home with me. I can lose myself completely and forget where I am within five minutes.
3) In a different part of my house. I love my comfy reading spots, of course, but sometimes it’s nice to find a different place you normally don’t read. I used to find that if I was experiencing reader fatigue, this could help me get back into my book. I once read half a book on my staircase, and I used to sometimes wander into the spare bedroom to read at night.
4) In bed. I mean, obviously. What is better than cuddling up under a cosy blanket with just a reading light and everything calm and quiet and diving into a great book?
5) This one is more just based on the picture. When I look at this one I just want to jump into it. I can hear the sound of the waves, smell the salty tang in the air, feel the fresh breeze on my toes. That looks awesome.
6) On the couch. Or, in my case, in my reclining chair. With a cup of tea or a cold beer nearby. And a fuzzy blanket. In comfy pyjamas. Perfect.
7) Anywhere with a view. Whether it’s a window in my home, a hotel balcony, or the window of a moving vehicle, I love reading and glancing up to see snow drifting down or sun peeking through leaves or rolling hills or fields of lavender. Any gorgeous natural backdrop and I’m happy.
8) Outside in the sunshine. I can’t handle sun, heat, pollen or poor air quality anymore, so I can no longer do this, but I used to love finding a sunny spot (though normally I would try to put my head in the shade), stretching out on the grass or a blanket, and just relaxing as I read.
And there are a couple of others I couldn’t find pictures for:
9) Coffee shop or restaurant. I used to love going to a bustling Starbucks, ordering a snack and a latte, popping in my earbuds and opening my book. And when I was a kid, whenever my family went out to dinner, I’d be the only kid. So as soon as I was old enough to read, I’d take a book, curl up in the corner of a booth, and just read while the grownups chatted.
10) While going for a walk. This is one that’s since I started listening to audiobooks. I love just wandering, with no destination, while listening to someone reading me a great story.
So those are some of the best places I’ve enjoyed reading. What about you guys? Where do you love to read the most? Are any of mine on your list?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
I love reading on my couch with a cold beverage and a delicious snack.

Mmmmm that sounds divine!
I read in bed a lot too. I also read when in transit, and I can actually read in cars so that is helpful, especially when you’re going on a really long journey. I like reading outside in the sunshine too, but I also have the pollen problem so can only do it when the pollen count is low. I also read whilst walking around as well, when I have to walk to and from the bus to work, or if I’m just walking around town shopping, I’m usually listening to an audiobook.

Yes! I’m not the only one! 😉
🙂
Great Post. I copped out and did a different TTT this week: http://wordywitterings.com/2021/08/17/ttt-ten-texts-that-ill-be-teaching-this-year/
Hahaha! Fair!
It is always a fabulous feeling to look around on a subway and see so many people lost in reading.
It is – makes me feel like all hope in the human race is not lost!
A great list of places!
When you get the chance, I hope you stop by my post: https://readbakecreate.com/10-books-with-travel-locations-in-their-title/
Thanks!
Yes! Reading on flights is the best. I would read on the bus but I tend to get car sick if I read in the car (and I don’t want to test it on a bus lol). Great list!
When I was a kid reading on a plane was the best. It was like time was suspended, and because it was a plane there was nothing else I had to do and no reason to feel guilty. The time was entirely mine to do with as I pleased. Of course I’m now a (rather large) adult, so I can’t curl up in the seats like I did as a child. It’s one of the things about childhood I miss the most!
A few favourites here!
Yay!
