Well, 17 of the books I read last year were by new-to-me authors, so this one should be easy. Here are ten of the ones I’m happiest to have discovered:
I found some fantastic books and authors this year – two of these I’ve already read twice, and will read again, and at least three more I plan to pick up again soon. All of them I’d highly recommend!

Fun selections. I had to give Salt Path back before I got to it–I need to request it again. The Boy etc I have on my TBR.
Salt Path was just the right book at the right time for me. I think I would have enjoyed it no matter what, but I think I connected to it more strongly because I read it when I was dealing with some pretty difficult medical issues (still am) and during quarantine when the idea of just getting out and walking with no restrictions, and the freedom of that (even with its stresses) was appealing! I haven’t read the sequel yet but have it on my TBR. The Boy was such a quick read, but just lovely. Highly recommend it!

Which one? Yeah, that pretty much sums up my entire view on books, particularly these days! I always get to the end of the year with a list of books I wish I had read outstripping those I read by at least 5 to 1. Story of my life, I’m afraid!
I didn’t get to Salt Path until this year, so I guess Raynor Wynn will be on my list for next January.
I will look forward to your thoughts when you do get to it! I don’t think it was perfect by any stretch, but I do think it was a good one to pick up during a pandemic. A journey of acceptance and looking for a bright side even if it’s hidden and small, something I think we could all use right now!

It really was. It’s presented in a way that’s accessible, but that really underlines the horror behind each of the points he chooses to present. One of the most important books I’ve read in recent years, and one I’ve already re-visited and expect to go back to many times. The audiobook was really good, and not very long, so if you’re into audio I’d highly recommend trying this one!

I don’t re-read very often either – there are so many books I want to read that re-reading feels like an extravagance I just can’t justify. But I was in the mood for something I knew I’d like this year, and with everything going on I decided to let myself have a couple. Plus I listen to audiobooks on at least 1.5x speed, so it means I can get through a YA book in a day, so it’s not as big of a commitment! Maybe I’ll try to incorporate a re-read or two every year. I’m glad I did this year!
