Hmm. I’m not really sure what to do with this post, because I don’t really set a whole lot of reading goals, other than participating in the Goodreads challenge each year. But even then, I generally set my goal to one book a week, which by this point I’ve likely passed already. So I only have a couple of things that I’m holding in the back of my mind for the rest of the year.
- Find some good heartwarming books that make me feel cosy and seen.
- Find some memoirs by women who are either experiencing mental health issues, motherhood challenges, or who are telling their stories through areas I’m interested in – like farming, yarn work, gardening.
- Keep reading at least a couple of books a month through the winter months. Each year I typically end up having a fallow reading season in the winter. That’s fine, but I’d like to try to keep reading a little bit if I can.
- That said, I’d like to also be patient with myself if I don’t manage to keep reading, or if something else happens that impedes my ability to keep going – illness being a major factor.
- I’d like to re-read a book or two from my favourites. I’ve been doing that more lately, and I really enjoy it.
- I’d like to read a book or two from the ones that have been languishing on my shelves for years but that I’m still interested in.
- I’d like to find time to read a physical book as well as the audiobooks that make up the bulk of my reading these days.
That’s it for me this year. Mostly it’s to keep reading, read books I enjoy and not put too much pressure on myself. If I need to put it in a nutshell. But I’m not so worried about hitting goals these days – life has enough pressure in it. Why add more?
What about you guys? Do you take a similarly relaxed approach to reading goals? Or are you inspired by having goals to work towards and meet? Of the goals you’ve set this week, which is the most important to you, and why?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
