Today I’m going to share some books that I’m thankful for – books that picked me up when I was down, books that made me feel seen, books that taught me something I didn’t know or shared an important perspective on life. These books all meant something special to me, and I recommend all of them highly!
These three all connected with me on a deep level in one way or another. Either because I’ve never quite felt in step with the world around me, because motherhood is hard, or because I also found comfort and escape in books.
These three had some important things to share. The Myth of Normal talks about trauma and the connection between mental and physical health. I’ve got a couple of chronic medical issues and a history of trauma, and I can say from my experience that they’re deeply connected. This book was hard to read as it broaches some difficult truths, but was also a relief to read as it shared my experiences that I’ve never shared in any way before. The 1619 Project was a wonderful collection that shows so many aspects of racism in the US and how we got here, and is an eye-opening read for anyone who isn’t aware of all the events and policies through history that built today’s system that perpetuates racism. Borders blew me away because it’s such an incredibly simple story on the surface, but it manages to capture an entire history of colonialism and disenfranchisement in one interaction. All three of these are amazing and I’d recommend them to anyone.
All four of these made me feel better. They’re full of sweet moments and heartfelt wisdom and emotional learning and personal growth. All good to read when you’re feeling down, disillusioned or just in need of something uplifting.
That’s it for me this week! What about you guys? What topic did you choose this week? Anyone feel the same as I do about any of my picks?
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly link-up feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, go here.
Love your twist on this freebie, great list of books.
Thank you!
Man Called Ove!! I love him. I’ll be checking out some of these. Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m so glad I finally gave him a chance! I hope you find something else here that speaks to you as well. I’m Canadian so we had ours last month (it was good), but same to you!!
I am also thankful for writers like Klune and Backman. They bring such heart to their stories.
They do. I always love when a book makes me feel!
I’m so glad you’ve found so many great books to pick you up, comfort you, and transport you. Isn’t reading great?
Happy TTT!

I’ve been meaning to for literally years, so right there with you! It’s a fairly quick read, particularly so on audio, if that helps at all!
I love how you sorted this post and thanks for your honesty.
I love a feel good read and The House in the Cerulean Sea surely was that for me as well.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I’m glad it worked for you – I wasn’t quite sure if it was making sense how I separated it! I enjoy sharing things that are not so often talked about because I figure maybe someone reading is in a similar situation – I always appreciate honesty from other bloggers too! I loved House on the Cerulean Sea. I know it’s not without its problematic elements, but at the same time it did make me feel, and that’s something I still appreciate. I am in Canada so we are past Thanksgiving, but I hope you had a wonderful weekend – whether it’s Thanksgiving where you are or not! It’s always a good time to practice some gratitude!
