TOP TEN TUESDAY: TOP TEN BEACH READS FOR THE SUMMER

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday on The Broke and the Bookish is a seasonal: Top Ten Books That Will (or Should) Be In My Beach Bag This Summer.

First of all, let me say that I’m not a seasonal reader, I’m more of an, “as the mood strikes me” reader. So I don’t really have any rules about reading “beach books” or “summer reads.” That said, I usually do find myself in the mood for at least one or two “beach books” throughout the summer. I also tackle some of the more heavy reading because at least if I’m reading about horrible things, the sun is shining! But, for the sake of you guys’ mental health, I’ll try to pick some of the lighter, funner books in my TBR pile!

Landing Gear – Kate Pullinger
Then and Always – Dani Atkins

This One Summer – Mariko Tamaki & Jillian Tamaki
Tibetan Peach Pie – Tom Robbins

Since You’ve Been Gone – Morgan Matson

We Were Liars – E. Lockhart
The Opposite of Loneliness – Marina Keegan
Everything Leads to You – Mina LaCour

So how’d I do? Summery enough for y’all? Share books I should have thought of but didn’t in the comments! //<![CDATA[ var sc_project=10144299; var sc_invisible=1; var sc_security="82f610c9"; var scJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://secure." : "http://www."); document.write("”); //]]>

Likewise. Karen over at One More Page just finished it and loved it, and she's got good taste, so I'm even more excited about it. Yeah, we're not really beachy folk.

And this is why the rest of the world wishes they lived in California! Not that I'm jealous, sitting up here in my rain boots or anything. I'll save that for one of our many rainy days! Thanks for the follow!

Definitely. But then again… that's kind of how I feel most of the year, though. I've heard amazing things about We Were Liars, so I can't wait to check it out! Thanks for the follow!

Oooooh I want to check out We Were Liars. I've only heard good things about it. Like can't say anything about the plot good things.
I'm nervous about making a beach reads list, because I read a lot of heavier things too. Wish me luck.

Yeah, I've heard it's really good. I was originally concerned it might be a bit too teenagery for me (I'm in my 30s, and I love YA, but I can't take the more teeny stuff sometimes). But from what I've read about it, that doesn't seem to be the case. Plus, THAT COVER. Right?

You made it to BEA? Give me a second to get past the jealousy. Okay, done. That's totally awesome! I've never been, don't even really know what it is except that it's something where people get loads of books and hang out and get drunk and silly. Which all sounds like heaven to me!

I've heard WWL is a tearjerker, but in the totally best way possible. So I'm saving it for when I have the emotional stamina!

Yeah, possibly *not* the most original, but hopefully good nonetheless! I've heard really good things about We Were Liars in particular. Though apparently it requires lots of kleenex!

Me too! I've heard such good things about both of them. (Though I freely admit that I would have bought Since You've Been Gone just for that fancy double-cover!!)

I agree with you about being more of a mood reader than a seasonal reader. Though if I do get to the beach, I prefer something light so I can put it down and pick it up without losing the narrative thread. These are great recs, I want to check out We Were Liarscand Everything Leads to You.
