This week’s prompt is a special one. We’re to share the top books on our wishlists along with a link to our Amazon wish list (here’s mine) so that we can go around like tiny happiness fairies gifting each other books in honour of Jana’s birthday! So the first thing to say is, happy birthday, Jana! I hope you have a wonderful (and book-filled) celebration!
I always have about 20,000 books on my wish list, so it’s never an easy task narrowing that down to a reasonable number. But here are some that are currently tickling my fancy!
I don’t remember where I heard about On Hampstead Heath, but I love London, so that’s the main appeal! I recently finished Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik, and I absolutely adored it. I’m hoping this one will have the same rich character development and the perfect amount of fantasy. I read How to Be an Antiracist earlier this year and definitely understood what all the fuss is about. I really want to tackle Stamped from the Beginning (and the YA version adapted by Kendi and Jason Reynolds, Stamped) which I believe focus more on the historical context of racism in America. I don’t expect it to be easy going, but I feel like it’s important reading. I loved The Martian by Andy Weir, but I hadn’t really planned to pick up any of his other books (mostly, I admit, because I expected them to be nowhere near as good). So I saw Hail Mary floating around, but didn’t really take any notice. Until I had it recommended to me with glowing praise at least three times in the last week (thanks, Lydia!) which piqued my interest!
I don’t remember where I came across any of these except The Prettiest Star, which was thanks to Greg over at Supposedly Fun. But the descriptions of all four appeal to me. I’ve read a few pages’ sample of We Are Not Free and am intrigued – I also want to be trying to add more books by AAPI authors to my reading. I’m very interested to give the other three a try – they’re all about the experiences of people whose lives are very different to my own, which is always a great thing to find in a book. I’ve heard good things about two of the three, and definitely want to give them all a try!
Please share your links in the comments to your own TTT post where you have listed the books on your wishlist (and a link to your Amazon wishlist, if you’re participating!) and I will choose a couple at random to send gifts to! To anyone celebrating a birthday around now, happy birthday, and I hope you are all finding an excuse to treat yourselves to something a little bit special, birthday or not!
Top Ten TuesdayĀ is a weekly link-up feature created byĀ The Broke and the BookishĀ and hosted by Jana atĀ That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week TTT has a different topic, and everyone who links up has to create a link of ten items that fit that topic. To see past and upcoming topics, goĀ here.

Well, I’m mostly using this exercise to refer back to the books I want, that way hopefully I’ll be less likely to buy a bunch that aren’t on the list!
Smart!

I feel like it keeps popping up everywhere!
I read We Are Not Free earlier this year, and LOVED it! I think it has been my favorite read this year, if not ever (which is hard to say as I love lots of books). Some people are turned off by the multiple POV, but they aren’t difficult to keep up with. Each chapter is like a short story.
I also enjoyed reading Opal & Nev. It took me by surprise as I didn’t know what to expect when I picked it up. A few times I found myself wanting to Google them or even search Spotify for their music.
