If I’m honest, I don’t really have much interest in celebrity culture. I kind of figure most celebrities either won’t live up to the idea you have of them in your mind, or won’t be half as interesting as they seem. So there are some I enjoy watching, some whose talent I admire, some whose ideas I find fascinating or insightful, but actually meeting them? I don’t know, probably not so much.
If I had to pick any, I think I’d probably go with Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie or Judi Dench. I would like to think they’re mostly how they seem in the media, partly because they’ve been in it for so much of their lives and there haven’t been any major dramas that have changed how I feel about them, and partly because I’ve watched interviews with them (and read books by two of them) and I’ve liked not only what they’ve had to say, but the clear thought they put into what they choose to share and how they share it. I think they’d all be extremely intelligent, have very insightful ideas about all kinds of things, and I’d learn something (or many things) from each of them.
I would also have loved to meet David Bowie and Alan Rickman, if this post were being written several years ago!
What about you guys? Who would you like to meet, and more importantly why? Who would you absolutely not want to meet?

I don’t keep up with “celebrities” much, and even the political people who interest me most aren’t the highest-profile ones. Cheers to you for picking at least a few people, on this list, whose names I recognized. One current singer I think I might like to jam and write songs with is Oliver Anthony–he’s actually done songs about a lot of things other than inflation.
Lol I hear ya! I haven’t heard of Oliver Anthony, but it’s great when you find a singer whose work is enjoyable and meaningful!
Three really good choices.
Thank you!
I’m not one for celebrities either. I would like to enjoy a chat with a wonderful writer, maybe, and perhaps I would enjoy listening from the next table at Jerry Seinfeld and one of his comedian buddies.
I’m with you! I very much appreciate a person who can be funny. I didn’t include Hannah Gadsby in this list (I should have) but she is one of my all time favourite people because she can make me laugh so hard I cry!
Judi Dench would be a great choice. She seems so down to earth and shes funny. I’ve seen her in a few interviews and she always seems to enjoy having a bit of fun
I completely agree! She’s one of my role models. Even if she turns out not to be exactly as she seems, I’m happy to hold my version of her in high esteem!
Stephen Fry would be interesting to meet for sure.
I love listening to and watching him in interviews – he is so eloquent and intelligent. I don’t think he’d be any different in person!
