WEDNESDAY BLOGGING CHALLENGE | A JOB I’D BE GOOD AT

It’s hard for me to know what I’d be good at. I’ve always struggled to see my own strengths, and never really managed to actually form a career for myself, despite lots of schooling and many jobs. I don’t know about what I’d be good at, but I do know I’d like a job where I felt like I was being useful and helping people. So perhaps a therapist or patient advocate. Put all my various negative experiences to some use. I’d also be good at helping people find books to read, since I spend so much time immersed in the literary world, so I’d love to work in a bookshop if my body would only allow me to stand and lift!

What about you guys? Which job do you think you’d be good at? And which would you most like to do?

Wednesday Weekly Blogging Challenge is a blog hop hosted every Wednesday by Long and Short Reviews. The weekly prompts range widely, including both book-related and non-book-related topics. Your line of thinking was why I went into librarianship — I wanted a job that let me help people, and wanted involvement with literature and culture. Alas, I spend more time looking for dead people for genealogical requests or answering tech support questions that anything literary!

Wow really? That’s still one of my dream jobs! I’ve met a few extremely helpful librarians – particularly ones who have gone out of their way to find or recommend books for my kid, which was a huge thing for us! But it comes back to that same thing of the reality of anything vs. the fantasy. Never quite as good!

I worked at a bookshop for about a year and a half, and the biggest issue I had was maintaining enough willpower to not buy everything in the store. Aside from that (and a couple of persistent shoplifters), it was a lot of fun.

Right? I did very briefly for work experience and it was nice, but it was a larger chain and I feel like the dream is really a smaller bookshop with similarly book-loving colleagues!
