When I was a kid my mom and I took a train journey through the Rocky Mountains. On our return trip, someone called in saying there was a bomb on the train we were traveling on. We were stopped in a tiny town (I think it was the middle of the night, but that could just be the embroidery of an over-active imagination over decades). We had to all walk into the village and were told to gather in the town hall while an investigation took place. It turned out just to be a false alarm, and I’ve no idea if they ever found the person who called in the threat or what happened. I don’t remember how long we waited, probably at least a few hours, then we were able to re-board and got back on our way. I remember the part that had the biggest impact on me wasn’t the whole bomb on a train we’d been riding that could have killed us thing, but the fact that they brought in bomb-sniffing dogs and I was inconsolable that these animals were going to be put in danger to save humans who, as far as I could tell, weren’t any more valuable than they were. That impression has stuck with me to this day, and I can’t say it’s changed all that much! So yeah, that’s the only kind of unbelievable story I’ve got.

That was certainly a memorable experience. Glad it was only a false alarm, and those dogs didn’t get hurt.
Thanks! Yeah, I was very relieved that the dogs were okay!
That sounds pretty scary – glad it was a false alarm!
Yeah, I do remember being scared, but mostly just feeling a bit overwhelmed and cold and tired! I was hugely relieved for the dogs.
What a story! I’m glad those bomb-sniffing dogs were okay.
Right?? It seemed so unfair to send them in when they had no idea what they were risking. That blind trust they place in their humans – seemed so wrong to exploit it! (Also I tend to prefer dogs to most humans anyway…)
